It's music hall style that he and his dad loved, pure working class Liverpool.

Paul was very versatile, Honey Pie was also musical hall, something granny could sing along with...but remember paul also wrote Helter Skelter, Oh Darling, I'm Down and sung some of the hardest rockers in the Beatles. Paul is VERSATILE, he's good at many styles. Much of the beatles early stuff was very country (George loved Carl Perkins) - i've just seen a face is a country 2 step in 1/2 time, not 2/4.

I find it up and down. Some of the lyrics are neat- "I'm in love, but I'm lazy"- others, less so.

 

I'm not a great fan of "When I'm Sixty Four". I think it appears better than it is because of the tracks surrounding it. I don't rate "Within You, Without You" or "Lovely Rita" either, so relatively speaking it's much stronger. If it was between Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane, it wouldn't seem nearly as strong.
