When I was reading my thread on With the Beatles and its least favoreness in ratings, it seemed that mostly it was ruined for many with Hold Me Tight.  So what is your opinion on this song, it's nowhere near the best but certainly there's a chunk of songs behind it in the Beatles catalog.

I think 'Hold Me Tight' is a great song. EMI was thinking about releasing this song as a single when the album came out but changed their mind.

Great rhythm guitar work.

A lot of people discussed their opinions on Hold Me Tight here:

http://www.beatlesbible.com/fo…..please-me/

But I quite like the song, it's certainly not their best but it's certainly not their worst

Yeah, I don't know if we need a third thread for hashing this out, as it's certainly not going to persuade/dissuade anyone. At any rate, if I dismissed an entire album on one song that I disliked, I wouldn't be able to listen to most of the albums.

Hold Me Tight is on my list of Beatle gems that many may consider as filler. Great song, but distinguished by it's unique texture and drive…not sure if that is Paul doing his bass thing or John's rhythm which seems to be on the lower strings. But they knew exactly what to do with every song, it seemed, and they nailed it with Hold Me Tight.

I really like, but the first time I heard it was actually in the movie Across The Universe, that movie's great! i like how there's a lot of references to songs aside from the ones actually sung!ahdn_george_06

I like it very much. I used to think it was the first song ever to use the only/lonely rhyme. Then I realised that that rhyme was, sadly, not invented by the Beatles. Anyway, its a good sing. I'm not crazy about the you-you-yous, but I like the melody.

Any song where Paul is singing "making love to only you" is a winner, in my book.

From the article: "Luckily footage exists of takes 20-29; producer George Martin edited versions 26 and 29 together to create the final album edition"

Is this right – there exists film footage of them attempting to record this track?! Has this ever shown up anywhere?

One day, a tape-op got a tape on backwards, he went to play it, and it was all "Neeeradno-undowarrroom" and it was "Wow! Sounds Indian!" -- Paul McCartney

No footage just audio – all commonly bootlegged and will be on youtube.

Ah ok, thanks. So "footage" was just an silly word choice on the writer's part.

Actually, audio footage is an acceptable term.  It's just that the term is more commonly used with video.

EDIT: But, on topic, Hold Me Tight is actually one of my favorite songs on With The Beatles.

Hold Me Tight was one of the first songs I heard of them, and despite the questionable ''Making love to only you'' lyric, some out-of-tune and therefore rushed, along with constant clashing of vocals (while Paul says: ''It feels so right now'', John & George say: ''It feels so right so'', and that's on every time they sing this!) and almost inaudible bass, it has a special place for me, and it's pretty catchy. I just wonder how the Please Please Me version sounded; it could have sounded even better, but only if EMI hadn't destroyed the tapes…

Doesn't Paul say that in all his songs???? a-hard-days-night-paul-11

BEATLES Music gives me Eargasms! By 1966 the Beatles had played over 1,400 shows, toured the world four times and sold the equivalent of 200 million records. At the height of their popularity, and without warning, they pulled the plug and never toured again.
