I like “Flying ” just fine, both for its own merits and its unique status in the canon as their only real instrumental (not counting “Cry For A Shadow” or “12-Bar Original” or other such oddities.) In fact, heh heh, I like it as an instrumental SO MUCH that I couldn’t keep myself from creating a special “with lyrics (and dialogue!)” version entitled “Sgt. Pepper Taught The Band To Fly”. Which some of you will have heard before, but not with the accompanying cheesily psychedelic video – my first-ever Youtube upload, created especially for this thread. Special bonus points if you can identify all the 1967-68 tracks that were cannibalized to create the “lyrics” (there's like 7-8 of 'em):

Yes, also known as the ‘Aerial Instrumental Tour’ version throughout Beatleg Land. Is this not the same version from the movie (haven’t seen it in awhile) if I remember correctly? Anyhow, ‘Flying ‘ should be rated up there amongst their Finest 1967 works, Ringo is Bringing It here, as he wasn’t much allowed to do on let’s say ‘All You Need Is Love ‘. Ringo is Fully Deserving of his Writing Credit here, it Don’t Fly Without Rings on this one…:-)

Offline Details on the 9 minute+ version of ‘Flying ‘ for anyone who’s interested from John C. Winn’s ‘That Magic Feeling’ book.
The group returned to the “Aerial Tour Instrumental” this evening to finish it off with a few more overdubs, probably erasing elements heard in the previous “best” mix. Ringo shook maracas, George added some licks on acoustic guitar, and John added further Mellotron flutes. To replace the Dixieland ending, John and Ringo prepared several tapes consisting of Mellotron, organ, and chimes.
Mark Lewisohn indicates that these tapes were assembled in five“takes,” with the last of these being overdubbed onto track 4 of the song. John Barrett’s tape log and the aural evidence reveal otherwise. In fact, all five “takes” appear on the same multitrack reel as the body of take 8, labeled as part two of the song, and we can hear each one play through on the raw studio tape (A). “Take 1” comes in at about 1:24 and is played backwards; this fades to silence at 2:48. The next two takes are played forward: “Take 2” lasts from 2:51–5:14, while “take 3” runs from 5:25–6:09. Two more backwards takes appear at 6:16–7:01 and 7:06–9:35. To round the whole thing of, George Martin’s voice appears, exclaiming, “That’s it!”. It’s likely that these were never meant to be part of the song (now titled “Flying ”) for record release, but rather to be used generally in the film soundtrack (and indeed they pop up throughout as incidental music).
I’ve always liked the version with the “Dixieland ending”.

That’s because of UMG UK being pissbags and blocking The Beatles music from YouTube with only the following songs included on their official YouTube channel:
With live/alternate versions of these songs:
Which means that in addition to 95% of The Beatles music missing from YouTube, they’re making lost media by banning songs like Revolution 1 Take 20 or the original Flying
