I’ve had a very hard time with that too. I would have a song and give it the same score as Strawberry Fields Forever for example, but then I would recognize that SFF is clearly a much better song and just give the other song a score of one point lower.

That is along the same lines of what I did. I first scanned the list for what I felt were clearly 10’s. After that, the rest was easy. I would look at a song and decide how many degrees away from 10 it was. I finished up in minutes and did not go back and agonize over a ranking.

Offline I went back once as i couldn’t justify putting I Need You and No Reply on the same mark as ADITL despite them being my favourites. Agree that you could spend hours over the ratings however so have left it alone and forgotten about it.
Out of interest is it ok to be told how many folk are involved in this? Hopefully a good number of people here are contributing.

Offline Apologies for not participating, I had a hard time following this, to be honest. I admire the zest in which those involved have pursued the project, but I found that the ‘Can we all agree … or not?’ (on “the best Beatles song”) question was answered very early on when those who commented had difficulty even agreeing with themselves let alone others on which is “the best”. I also don’t understand the need to complete the extensive spreadsheet to acetane which song is the best, shouldn’t we be voting for one song? I understand how difficult that may be for some, but I would think that more thought would be put into concentrating “the best Beatles song” and for me that would be ‘Hey Jude ‘ (for what it’s worth), I just didn’t see how comparing the other 200+ songs to the one song I felt was “best” should come into play, but that’s just me. I would’ve scored pretty much all of them quite high and gave ‘Hey Jude ‘ a little nudge which probably would’ve obscured the results somewhat, I am interested in seeing which ones come out on top, however…:-)

Offline I think the idea is to see where people rank the various songs. Some on the forum are quite vocal about this or that song, but how do we feel collectively? Will there be a clear top 20, top 50, top 100? Will there be clear drop-off below a given song? Will there be 30 songs clustered together at the top and then a drop-off? What songs will have very consistent rankings and what songs will be ‘all over the place”?
I don’t think we’re going to proclaim one winner – although, who knows? Perhaps one song will far out distance the others…
Also despite this being the “Beatlesbible” it’s not written in stone. When the results are out, people who haven’t voted may feel compelled to “Heal or Hurt” by now voting…
