Was reading Wikipedias article on Brian Jones and read that he "played oboe on the Beatles' "Baby You're A Rich Man"' which was a surprise. So looked on wiki's entry for Baby You're A Rich Man as well as Beatles Bible's to see if this was true and there is nothing on either. There is also no mention of this in the books 'Revolution In The Head' or 'The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions' (tho Mick Jagger is noted is noted as attending the sessions), there is also not even a mention of an oboe being on the record.

Does anyone know anything about this? Is it complete nonsense or was he there but his contribution omitted from the song, but then why mention Mick Jagger's attendence but not Brian Jones's?

I have a recollection of Brian Jones being on some Beatle recording, but I thought it might have been "You Know My Name"

Yeah, Brian played the saxophone on You Know My Name (Look Up The Number).

Maybe the line about Brian playing on BYARM is to help spot when folk go to wikipedia and duplicate the material without checking their sources.

The website Songfacts.com mentions it, too. But one site could have copied erroneous info from the other. For my money, I would rather believe the more reliable resources you cited in your fist post.

I love how loud the bass is in this song, BTW.

Brian Jones did play on "You Know My Name", saxophone to be exact, which was his first instrument before playing guitar. He was not on BYARM. Many people confuse the clavioline for an oboe, but they aren't even close. Somehow the idea that Brian played sax on one and oboe on the other has become a point of misunderstanding in more recent years.

As for Jagger, according to a 1993 interview, he confirmed that he did join in at the end.

You may know that the worldwide broadcast of "All You Need Is Love" took place a few days prior to the BYARM session. Jagger was there, too. So maybe he was invited to stop by during the BYARM session. Shortly thereafter, John and Paul stopped by and did backing vocals for the Stone's "We Love You".

Actually, All You Need Is Love was done after the recording of Baby You're A Rich Man (11 May) and We Love You (12 June). The day of the broadcast was 25 June. Check it on the history section of this site.
