I believe Wikipedia is wrong. Here is a direct quote from Hunter Davies' biography of The Beatles – names in brackets are added by me to clarify who is being referred to:
“He'd [John] written down another a few words that day. just daft words, to put to another bit of rhythm. “Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the man to come.” I [Hunter Davies] thought he said, “van to come,” which he hadn't, but he liked it better and said he'd use it instead.”
