I think the reason 'YLMTM' isn't spoken of very much is because of the poor lyrics. His voice is enough to make me like the song but not everyone's the same.

You won't get any argument from me that it's a great record, it just seems to me that in most of the serious criticisms I've read, it usually gets short shrift, mainly because I think conventional wisdom is that it was a song written as one of those "oh, it's time for another single" type of thing. But it's got a killer riff, I love the harmonies, and I think the lyrics are clever.

There are several of their songs I love that while not generally hated, are sometimes seen as throwaways. Paperback Writer and Birthday are the first that come to mind.

I also love "Free as a Bird." The video nearly always makes me tear up.

I've never thought of 'Paperback Writer' as a throwaway. Why would they have put it out as a single rather than just an album track if they didn't think it was very good? I love it too though :D
