I found my dad’s old copy of Sgt. Pepper ‘s he had long thought lost today. I listened to it, and on the famed ending of Side 2, after A Day In The Life ‘s chord… nothing happens. The “never could see any other way” doesn’t appear. I’m american, so I have the Capitol release. It’s the 1967 Capitol release in Stereo. Now, I’m not familiar with records, so there’s a number on the center of the record itself, SMAS-2653. Don’t know if it’s individual or not. Anyone know if that’s supposed to be there, or if it was only in the UK? Thanks.

Got this on another site:

“Canadian & US pressings didn’t have the high frequency tone or gibberish – neither the stereo or mono”.

I bought a new re-mastered copy a while ago.  Must be the U.K. release then, because it does have the high pitched noise and the “inner groove”.

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

The Inner Groove wasn’t included on the original US Pepper, it was first issued on the US Rarities in 1980. It would have been corrected and added to all releases no matter where it was bought when the catalogue was standardised with the cd releases in 1987.

I did read a long while back it was down to an oversight when the LP was pressed, banded or whatever its called, for the US market, no idea if that is correct.

I seem to remember that a copy of the master had been dispatched to Capitol once they’d made the final tweaks on the 20 April, and then the idea for the “Inner Groove”, and its recording, took place the following day. Meaning Capitol received a master that didn’t have it.

It isn’t included on last year’s Capitol albums CD set. There’s a very good reason though, Pepper isn’t a part of that set.

Wow.  I assumed every US album was in the set, right up to the Hey Jude CD.  Now I’m really glad I didn’t waist my $$$$ on it.

Have to say apple01 has been disappointing me with reissues after reissues of all the same stuff over and over. Other than the 2104 mono LP set, (which I won’t buy), but is a nice collection done right! apple02

After ‘Revolver ‘ the UK albums match the US and are in the stereo and mono box sets (bar ‘Hey Jude ‘) so folk would be paying more for what they already had (excluding a few alternate mixes and the missing Pepper Inner Groove).

There is less risk for Apple in common reissues and the US collection was a natural step after the UK collections (Japan also got a collection of its own unique albums). Of course they could reissue the Christmas records or the Let It Be movie or put out Shea or the video promos but lets not go there.

Agreed, but think folks in the US would want their Capitol swirl album labels on the CD’s, jut like the Parlophone label on the UK CD’s.  Anyways, they still got ripped off,    ’cause they didn’t use the dexterized Capitol recordings on the US set, like they did with the 2004-06 Capitol Vol 1 & 2 CD releases.

Apple are useless and going to balls it up somehow, its what they do. Go from that point with every release.

Agreed. Thank god they have the Beatles fans (some with deep pockets) to fall back on…  heart
