^ When I was in the UK in 2007 I stayed at a Novotel which was just around the corner from the British Library.  From memory it was near Euston Station because I was staying at Notting Hill the week before and got the tube from Notting Hill Gate to Euston to change hotels (lugging a way too heavy suitcase behind me).

Don’t have to think too hard about that one.  Definitely “In My Life “.  a-hard-days-night-john-1heart

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

My 3 Favorite are

1. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)

2. In My Life

3. Drive My Car

I like all their instruments from the

in Norwegian Wood to the sped-up piano in In My Life . Drive My Car is just normal, so I like that about it.

We were talking about the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion.

My favorite is actually “The Word “, I consider it like a Beatles-themesong, it also has impeccable groove-thx Paul. It’s right smack-dab in the middle of their career, so the I think concept of “love” was starting to change for them. It’s a love song but its not about a relationship necessarily.

I’m all about “You Won’t See Me ” as well.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t ‘The Word ‘ John and Paul’s attempt at a ‘One Note Samba-like’ tune?

I don’t know about the samba part, but, yes, according to Wikipedia, which quotes Paul in Alan Aldridge’s The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics, it was an attempt to write a song with one note like “Long Tall Sally .”

Hard to pick one, but if I had to it has to be Drive My Car . What a great opening tune! And I love Ringo’s syncopated drum fills at the end of each verse and at the end of the guitar solo.

to me this album commences the beginning of The Beatles greatness, the albums before are worlds behind the albums following that to me are the Beatles. I think that Rubber Soul is the first sign of the lyrical genius that was yet to come (although albums such as help! Do contain great songs such as another girl, the night before and youve got to hide your love away)

beautiful and one if the best albums to ever grace the earth. In my life and girl are two of my  all time favourites

Very Hard question but order of preference goEs something like this…

In My Life

Girl

Michelle

Nowhere Man

I’m Looking Through You

Wait

Run For Your Life

Drive My Car

If I Needed Someone

 Norwegian Wood

You Won’t See Me

Think For Yourself
The Word

What Goes On

Hi, this is Ahhh Girl. florriecole, somehow you are now using my name without the space in it. Did you try to change your name @Herethereandeverywhere  ? We need to get this worked out so you can have a name that isn’t so close to mine. It is causing confusion. I have to drive right now, but I’ll check back in when I can to see what can be done to get this fixed….or see if you’ve already found a different name. I’m sure folks can give you some suggestions if you need them.

Can you tell me where you heard this was sped-up piano.  It sounds like it would be within George’s (think it’s George (Martin), but Paul could do it too) ability to play that himself at the right speed…and I can’t hear it being sped up, but of course it’s hard to hear it when they speed it or slow it exactly 1/2 step, like in Yellow Submarine .

On Topic:  Easily In My Life .  2nd would probably be Drive My Car …or Norwegian Wood or…well you get the idea.

The sped-up piano that Hey Jude refers to is the instrumental break that sounds like a harpsichord. It was overdubbed by GM on 22 October 1965. He first tried out a Hammond organ. It wasn’t right. So he then tried a piano. He knew what he wanted, he wanted something that sounded baroque. He had no problem with playing it at the right tempo, but it didn’t sound baroque. It sounded like a piano. So he recorded it at half-speed, and then play the tape back at double-speed. So you end up with something that sounds like a harpsichord without actually having a harpsichord to play it on.

From one of Johns home tapes, the original rejected solo George M played for In My Life . The original tape is incomplete, any full length versions are fake.

I love Norwegian Wood and Girl. I also love Run For Your Life (ducks) despite the lyrical content. Not such a fan of Drive My Car and Nowhere Man . The whole album has wonderful harmonies.
