Rubber Soul is without a doubt one of my favourite albums ever. It's the perfect album to me because I love every. single. song. Not unlike Revolver.
But my favourite track would have to be Norwegian Wood. I'm a sucker for a good story being told, and I just imagine John setting some girl's house on fire. The instrumentation is really interesting and different, and there's something about the way John enunciates the words… It's a song I can listen to over and over and over and never get sick of it.
I also love I'm Looking Through You – shamelessly catchy melody and great to sing along to. The lyrics are so easy to relate to. And it's also really fun to play on guitar. I like how the chords change so quickly, and the keyboard in it is just too funky. Yes, I just said funky.
DUDE. I completely agree with you on everything, 100%. Even though Norweigian Wood is a bit farther down on my list, that is one of the few songs I'll never get tired of. And oh yes, watching the wonderful Lennon light things on fire would be a sight.
… And I did happen to use the term "funky" on my list as well. So that's groovy. :p

OfflineAs you could tell by my account name, my favorite song on Rubber Soul is "The Word." For the first time, John and Paul wrote a song while they were high on multi-colored paper. Also a first, they wrote about a type of love that goes beyond teenage boy and girl relationships. I am amazed how the Rubber Soul album showcases the peak of John Lennon's songwriting, especially "In My Life" and "Girl."![]()

OfflineFor some reason I can no longer pick a favourite song nor album now. For me I'm Looking Through You and The Word stands out in the whole album. But then again I like all of the other tracks in the album as well.
"When I was a robber *Piano Chord* in Boston Place"
"Let's hope this turns out pretty darn good huh"
"Pete may be the best, but Ringo is the star"
Paul:"Don't be nervous John"
John:"I 'm not"

OfflineRubber Soul is such a super-duper AWESOME album that it´s close to impossible (no, impossible) to choose a favourite but Girl, Norwegian Wood and In My Life are my top three.
The Beatles are the only band that I can´t pick a fave song/album of theirs. That proves how ace they were, I think.

OfflineBrian Wilson was inspired by Rubber Soul, because it had no "fillers" and every song in the album was written by the Beatles. This inspiration caused The Beach Boys to make Pet Sounds which inspired the Beatles to make SPLHCB.

He also said that all the songs seem to fit together, like a 'collection of folk songs'. Which is neat, because that's how I always looked at it; I grew up listening to the American version of it, and I always thought it sounded like those songs fit together in some way, almost like they told a story. As GREAT as those songs are, they wouldn't sound as great if they were on another album. It's like they're all parts of a puzzle, and they fit perfectly together. Brilliant.

OnlineIve just released that Brian Wilson would have been [almost certainly (im sure you could get an import if you were Brian Wilson)] influenced by the US Rubber Soul not the UK. Being a Scot when its mentioned i always think of Rubber Soul as the 14 track LP opening with Drive My Car but in the US it was 12 tracks opening with Ive Just Seen A Face and has a completely different feel. Wow! Thats pretty amazing considering its the UK version thats always rated and praised and held up. And so the US Rubber Soul would have been what inspired Pet Sounds and in turn Pepper. I wonder how different it would have been if it had been the UK more rocky version with Nowhere Man, If I Needed Someone, What Goes On etc.
So theres a reason why the US versions shouldnt be viewed as complete crap (not that i do but many write them off as being so).

OfflineI have to say Girl is one of my favourites on this album. I also always enjoy the word especially when it goes 'so fine, sunshine' that always makes me really happy with the harmonies. I also like think for yourself It always makes me feel better when I'm sad especially when the chorus kicks in. ![]()

OfflineHmm…this is tough, but if I had to pick one, it would be In My Life. But there are so many other good ones I can't just pick one. (Nowhere Man, Norwegian Wood, Think For Yourself, Girl).
Unrelated, whenever my dad listened to Rubber Soul, when John said "Is there anybody going to listen to my story?" my dad would say "Nope" and turn the song off. ![]()
