Steve Hoffman forums are a good resource.  I usually end up there when I want opinions on whether a remastered CD is actually better than the original one.  Although, most of the forum members end up saying, "Buy the vinyl."

Most audiophiles are really stubborn, they would even do anything to persuade you to their cause. But in my case I'd choose Vinyl over CD any day.

Don't know if I've explained myself properly there.

As for the quality of the site, there's a good mixture of serious threads and non-serious ones. There are other, busier Beatle forums online with more technical topics.  Why not check out one of those?  Just type "Beatles Forum" into Google, and there they are.

But any forum is only as good as its members.  You're a member.  So simple logic dictates that if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

To illustrate what I'm getting at, in the Songs section I'd initially hoped there'd be hugely in-depth discussions about what was recorded, similarities, threads, theories and themes. But they tend to be dominated by "Rank your favourite Rubber Soul songs"-type list threads, which become quite self-obsessed. I'm not sure if there's a way to separate the serious/frivolous, or even if we'd want to. I appreciate that you didn't take my comment as an insult.  These types of forums really are a throwback to pre-2003 internet, so it's nice that you're aware that linking them to newer social-media sites is important to keep them relevant.

I know it's a different platform (and I'm not too knowledgeable about this sort of thing) but if there was any way to integrate with Tumblr at all, that would be my focus.

Trying to "guide" a forum is like herding cats.  The subject matter appeals to such a wide swath of people, covering the full spectrum of ages and nationalities.  That fact alone makes a place like this prone to repetitious and simplistic threads.  I tend to avoid those for the most part, because not only am I among the older and more-knowledgeable group of fans, but I also tend to dislike Teen Beat-style lists and ...]]> Thu, 09 May 2013 14:37:12 +0100
