Liverpool council has put metal grilles on all the windows in the condemned streets, but Ringo's has extra bits around the edges because apparently people kept chipping away at them.

In October, I went on a trip to see John and Paul's houses in Liverpool, and there was time at the end to see Madryn Street. I don't know if anyone else has seen, but there's quite a lot of graffiti on the now boarded-up door and windows. Someone has even written "Don't knock me down" (a play on "Don't let me down").

The NT would only buy it if they thought it was a significant asset to the nation. Now you could argue that Ringo's birthplace fell into that category, but there are thousands of notable people in British history and sometimes you have to draw the line.

Yeah skye, he was born there. That in itself should have be enough to get the NT involved, I would think. Perhaps our brethren from the UK can shed some light on how that works.

I suppose it's cost prohibitive to restore all of them, but I don't see why they can't build around it. The National Trust bought Paul's and John's childhood homes...

Perhaps I'm not remembering this correctly, but he was born there, but then moved to another location when his dad left and his mom couldn't afford to stay, right? Which house do you preserve, and is the second home ok?

If the neighborhood is truly in a state of disrepair, new homes make sense.

At the same time, tell me there isn't something they can do to keep Ringo's childhood home intact by building around it. It is done all the time.

I'm quite surprised that it is not already a protected landmark.
