Welcome to the Beatles Bible Fab Forum, @Sparky77. In case you haven’t read it yet, don’t miss Joe’s write-up about the album.

I hope to see you Here, There And Everywhere on the forum.

If you’d like to tell us a little bit about yourself and your Beatlemania, here’s the introduction thread.

Revolver is probably my favorite album by The FAB Four. And of course… I play the original vinyl album.

Interesting article from the ‘Telegraph‘ on ‘Revolver ‘ and ‘Pet Sounds’ as their 50th anniversaries approach.

I heartily agree that in an age where the tendency is to take individual songs from albums and ignore the whole, folk should take the time to listen to the LP’s from track one thru to the end and savour the product. Tho to be my critical self I have to wonder why John’s contributions are largely ignored over Paul’s and ask where the idea that ‘Paperback Writer ‘ was an “out-take that didn’t make the album” comes from. ahdn_paul_01

There were some objectionable points made (such as the one you mentioned) but all in all, it was an enjoyable read. I was just contemplating which musics to put on… thanks for helping me make up my mind a-hard-days-night-john-6

Plus, this great quote:

Especially when they are different from the US Albums.  Not so much on Revolver , as it really is only 3 songs short of the UK version, but Rubber Soul is so different it’s a different take on the LP as a whole.  Then you have the remaining songs from both LPs on the Butcher Album to really change that product.

As for Paperback Writer /Rain , that is an interesting thought @mmm, but as you know EMI would want to put out a Single to keep up the hype, just like they did with We Can Work It Out /Day Tripper on Rubber Soul and the legendary Strawberry Fields Forever /Penny Lane Single from making the Sgt. Pepper LP.

Revolver is my favourite Beatles album, and one of my favourite albums of all time, but it must be said that Pet Sounds is absolutely brilliant as well. God Only Knows is one of my biggest favourites of all time, and I really love You Still Believe In Me.

It’s astounding how Pet Sounds was kind of a flop in the USA and how the rest of the Beach Boys didn’t really like it at the time. It did really well in the UK. Good thing the common perception about that album has changed, as it truly deserves to be called one of the greatest albums of all time. Brian Wilson was a genius. Shame he went nuts.

I never heard some of the “Pet Sounds” songs — like “You Still Believe In Me” for example.  That song has a very Christmas-Carolish sound to it…

I have to admit, I never understood the hype for the album either, but maybe for it’s time it was a great album.  Macca seemed to love it!  a-hard-days-night-paul-7

I agree. While I enjoy Brian Wilson’s masterful songwriting and innovative production, the album as a whole bores me. Its innovation may be only paralleled by Sgt. Pepper or Revolver , but both of those Beatles excite me much more.

I’m glad to have found this forum! I searched and browsed for a site that would let me talk Beatles with fans over the world. I can’t wait to look around the site.

I came here first because Revolver is my favorite Beatles album. I was listening to it the other day and became transfixed with Tomorrow Never Knows . I went online and read (and read) all I could about it and eventually started writing (which I do as a hobby). Before I knew it I had written 4,000 words about, not just TNK, but the whole album. Give it a read if you’re interested!

For some reason, I always get to feeling Revolvery round this time of year. I think it’s because I first ‘discovered’ it in the autumn.

To me it always sounded Summery. That doesn’t make either one of us right or wrong. I just think it’s interesting how we both attach a seasonal feeling to the album.

“Wow, is it Revolver already? Where did Rubber Soul go? Before you know it, I’ll have to start sending out Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band cards!”

Older comments but I was reading, and they jumped out at me.  I tend to feel like Zig with Revolver and always want to listen to it in the warmer months. I don’t really know why, either. With Rubber Soul , it’s always my “autumn album”. It really is interesting that seasonal feeling we have with certain albums isn’t it?

That seasonal thing is true for me too. I do it a lot more with Simon & Garfunkel then the Beatles, but Revolver does have a summery feel it.

Same here (yes I know I’m contradicting meself, a-hard-days-night-paul-11).

Also, ‘older comments’? Wow. I must be getting on in BBage if my comments can be older. a-hard-days-night-george-10
