I just received my son's bday present, an original uk release of Revolver.  I found this most excellent site for id-ing Beatles records, which most of you gurus are probably familiar with, thebeatlescollection.com (that link points to the Revolver section).  Anyway I found my record, it's the variation b of the 2nd pressing.  Does anyone know much about the different pressings?

In the detailed description of the lp, the website says this about variation b:

"This vinyl was pressed on the EMI on old machines press. IT’S NOT CBS PRESSING as many people think! THIS IS EMI PRESSING! To date only three Beatles albums have been found in this variation and they’re A Hard Day’s Night, Rubber Soul and Revolver."

Another site looks like it cutnpasted from that site and got it wrong.

Does this make it more valuable? less valuable? No difference?  Judging from the release dates of the different pressings, this would not be a particularly rare one.  However the variation b might be rare.  Hopefully my son won't be selling it anytime soon, and the condition isn't the greatest (lp, vg+; sleeve, g g+ really, so it's not worth a lot), but I'd like to know as much as I can about it when I give it to him (so he knows how good of care to give it – obviously I will try to impress upon him that it needs the utmost care (despite its condition, in 30 years it will be in much better relative condition if he takes care of it) – no need to make it worse.

Also for you real experts, the inner sleeve is paper outside with some plastic inside, cellophane or whatever they used back then.  But the website (and some others that were less detailed) say the inner sleeve says "Patent Pending".  Mine says:  Lower left – "British Patent No. 800613 & 973939".  lower middle – "PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS <newline> TO AVOID DANGER OF SUFFOCATION KEEP THIS BAG AWAY FROM BABIES AND CHILDREN".  lower right – "20 MADE IN ENGLAND B. 1/0570.  The sleeve looks old, it is slightly yellowed.  Do you think someone slipped a bogus sleeve in somewhere, or does this ring a bell with any of you?  I don't remember plastic bag warnings in the 60s, but then I was pretty young at the time a-hard-days-night-george-10

Thanks for any help!

Well the sleeve you have sounds as if it was patented by that point… That's all I can tell you, whether that lines up with the other info or not I don't know. That site should tell you everything though about how much it's worth etc. I didn't click the link yet but I think that's the same site I used to help me figure out that I had a real original Introducing The Beatles on Vee Jay and it had cost info

If I spoke prose you'd all find out, I don't know what I talk about.

Nevermind I think that's the link I showed you when you discussed this on the vinyl thread. Check out thebeatlesrarity.com there's a collection section that talks all about the different pressings of the vinyls.

None of the Revolver variations listed had a patented sleeve, and from what I can figure I have a fairly early one, so it shouldn't have been copyrighted.   I sent the site owner an email, maybe he'll answer it (or she).

I used the site you refer to, with prices, but the link I gave was to a page detailing a whole lot of labels, including every possible (it would seem) variation of Revolver pressings, and seemed authoritative, with clear pictures and descriptions.  Check that link if you didn't, if it's the site with the pictures and very detailed info you will like it I bet :)

@Mr. Kite – I never did thank you for your help.  So thanks!

The guy replied and said he'd send me a patent pending sleeve, I said that would be good, but I haven't heard back from him.  However, he's not very communicative, and my lp did arrive as advertised, just took a full month to get to usa from uk.

You're welcome @Matt Busby! He's nice to be sending you a historically accurate sleeve.
