OfflineThe younger gen has not wanted vinyls in years. I only use my record player however.
I wish they were cheaper however. I want revolver (along with all the other UK releases, but revolver is my favorite), but the UK releases are expensive as hell, and the Capitol release doesnt have I'm only sleeping (my fav song off revolver.) I currently have abbey road, Sgt peppers, Rubber Soul (its the capital release which doesnt have a few songs, so I dont count it) and the Beatles second album.

The other day I had a discussion with someone who claimed that the original Beatles records from the 1960s will lose their value in a few years because the younger generations want music that is not as old.
Pshhh. I've developed a theory about those kinds of people. They:
1. Are stupid
2. Are ignorant
3. Just want to irritate Beatles fans
(I originally developed this theory after someone was pushing the "'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' = LSD" thing on me.)

^^ Good theory. it so happens as one of my dads super-religious friends wants my dad to stop me from listening beatles because "they said they were bigger than Jesus and might hurt pru's mind"
And I was like screw that, i'd do it anyway.

Not to be mean, but, I don`t think that could be more wrong. The younger generation is getting away from even CD`s. So that`s neither stupid or ignorant. Wanting to irritate us? Not really. More just forgetting The Beatles typically buck trends.

I hate it when people make up stupid reasons for disliking the Beatles. My least favorite is definitely "they were junkies and hippies and they were high when they wrote their songs." Seriously? Go listen to anything before Rubber Soul, and you probably will find about three drug references. ("She's a Woman," "Day Tripper," and probably something sly that I wouldn't pick up.) Even their later material was mostly drug-free. (I'm thinking basically everything after the White Album. Again, I'm probably too innocent or whatever to pick up on drug references. Apparently someone thought "Hey Jude" was about heroin because of the line "let her under your skin." Honestly.)
Why can't they just say that the music isn't their thing? And even then, the Beatles covered such a wide range of genres that you'd probably have to hate music in general to not find a Beatles song you like.
Besides, there isn't really anything anti-religious in Beatles material. That came in John's solo work.

Oh, I wasn't talking about the vinyl-haters. I was talking about the people who say that the younger generation wants music that's not old, not a format.

Okay then, I'm wrong.

True (although the voices could be an issue for someone without taste).

Polythene Dan pointed out that you could be a Beatles-hater if you only like CRap. (See Zig's post in I can't remember which thread it was.)
Meh, whenever people say that they "aren't good singers," I say, "'Because.' Look it up."

OfflineFor what it's worth – my guess is that value of orignal Beatle vinyls will drop as boomers die off – and then only serious collectors will want them.
On another note, I was always impressed that when the band was still together, whenever they were asked about people who didn't like the Beatles (for whatever – their hair, their music etc) they never attacked their critics. They simply said "If some people don't like us that's fine, they don't have to buy our records.
It's a good model to follow to this day when people criticize the Beatles – calling critics stupid, etc., is just not what the band themselves were about.
I'm not sure I understand your logic. If serious collectors want the old vinyl wouldn't the value go up?
It's all about condition anyway. Lately I've seen more and more illustrated discography books being published, with different variations from around the world. I presume a comprehensive collection containing pristine items from many different countries would be worth far more than the odd vinyl copy of Revolver etc. Some things, such as the fan club singles, will always be worth lots because there weren't many manufactured and people didn't look after them.
Maybe the baby boomers will be gone in a while, but the world population is rising = more Beatles fans

OfflineThat is an interesting debate.
Will demand wane as the boomers do, or will it increase as new generations of Beatles fans are spawned?
By the way, boys – as someone who was born at the tail end of the boomer generation, you're making me nervous!
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.

Vinyl in general is booming – so will Beatles vinyl. Simple logic.
