The tapes also reportedly contained Free As A Bird and Real Love which Paul, George and Ringo worked on for the Anthology series. The story goes that they also worked a little on Now and Then but it was never finished. I would highly doubt it was John who wrote 'for Paul' tho, if that was written on the boxes then probably Yoko or one of her people and the story grew legs.

Regardless of what may be written and read in many places tho the original idea and discussion was between Yoko, Neil Aspinal and George H.

"In January 1994, Paul McCartney was given two tape cassettes by Lennon's widow Yoko Ono that included home recordings of songs Lennon never completed or released commercially. On one of the tapes, the words "for Paul" had been scrawled hastily in John's handwriting. The songs on the tape included "Grow Old With Me" and "Now and Then"."

Basically, I've seen this circulating the internet, seemingly sourced from tumblr, and online searches have been fruitless as I'm just lead back to that. a-hard-days-night-ringo-8
