Paul usually has some idea of what he wants regarding the drum parts to his songs since he also plays drums.

I would think that Steve Holly during the 'Back To The Egg' sessions would play what Paul wanted and I am sure Steve injected some of his own style as well into all the songs with Paul's approval.

While listening to "Spin it On" from McCartney's Back to the Egg, in which I love the drum part (in fact I love the drums throughout the album), it suddenly occurred to me that I don't know how the drum parts are written. I'm not very well-versed in the technical aspects of music. Does the songwriter (in this case Paul) write a part for the drums, or does the drummer (Steve Holly) come up with it from listening to the guitar chords and deciding what sounds right?

Sorry if this questions is silly...but I'd really like to know.
