You can hear George counting in a whisper before the last verse of Within You Without You (something like "da-de-da-de-dum-two).

Yes, at about 3'43", in the right channel of the stereo version. I don't think it's audible in the mono version, or the pre-remastered version.

Please don't spoil my day; I'm miles away

I love that part of the song. I usually dah dah dah dah dah dah dah along with him.

I swear I'd heard it on the pre-remastered version but will have to blow the dust off of it tonight and give it a listen. I've been spoiled with the remasters!

Or look at this video:

It's pre-remasters (uploaded in 2007), and I don't hear anything.

I tried to think of something powerful and moving… and failed.  "You were given a choice between war and dishonor - you chose dishonor, and you shall have war" - Winston Churchill

I only heard this about a month ago. It's weird, because it sounds so clear now. It's like, how could I ever have missed it?!

It is definitely on the pre-remastered stereo CD – I have it and it's there. It's also definitely in that vid mr. S posted. Try it with headphones. You'll hear it loud & clear.

In the mono version of the remasters, there is a sound at about 3:48 that could be anything – I doubt it's part of the whisper though.

I heard that same little sound on the mono vinyl  at 4:13 (the audio starts very late in the vid) – again, I don't think it's there in mono.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 On that video, the only sound I can hear is the one at 3:48, and isn't that the end of the whisper where he says "one, two" or "de-dum-two" or something?

Idk, maybe my hearing is just nowhere near as good as yours, (like I said, I didn't hear any whisper at all until a month ago), but for me it's definitely clearer in stereo.

This might have been mentioned elsewhere, but what about when you mishear lyrics in some songs? Like that whole dialogue between the "crew members" in Yellow Submarine. "Full steam ahead Mr. Boatswain, full steam ahead!" "Full steam ahead it is Sgt.!"

Back to WYWY -- I actually heard it first listening to the 8-track (yep!) on a pair of huge old Koss headphones.  Some of the remasters can mute or eliminate some of the subtle background activity.  I recall hearing the original Yellow Submarine songs on the Songtrack, and while it was a sonic marvel in terms of remastering, some of the more amusing sounds in the fade-out of Only A Northern Song and in the middle of It's All Too Much (both terribly underrated songs imho) are much more muted

Another bevy of background goodies can be heard when comparing the MMT version of Strawberry Fields with the Anthology version -- lots of John mucking about in the background and finally proving once and for all that the line is "Cranberry Sauce." Not to mention the freakin' amazing drumming (at its normal speed & pitch) from Master Starkey.

A Beatle belch at the very end of the Past Masters version of "You Know My Name".  This isn't on the longer edit on Anthology, which isn't nearly as engaging as the one on Past Masters (which I think is the original B-side to the "let It Be" single.)
