Hi, I’m new here. This site is amazing, and while I usually don’t join forums, I couldn’t resist.
Anyway, I was wondering what everyone’s first Beatles experience was, who introduced you to them, and how you became obsessed enough
to join the site. Me personally, I’m quite young, so I don’t even remember the Anthology albums coming out, though I was alive. My parents
spoonfed me the Beatles since I was three. One of my first memories is dancing in my underwear to Ob-la-di Ob-la-da (Anthology version)
in my living room. Also, I remember listening to Revolution 9 as a young child (nightmares). But I really didn’t get into them until last summer, when
I read the book about Manson, Helter Skelter . The author heavily mentioned the White Album , so I listened to it. Helter Skelter and
While My Guitar Gently Weeps are stil my favorites.Then I listened to all my Dad’s old CD’s, read the Anthology book, and became obsessed.
A few months later, I bought the stereo remasters, cause no one I knew had CD’s before Rubber Soul , and now I own all of them.

Offline Very much the same, actually, although I do remember the Anthology being on telly and all that when I was a kid. I remember my mum taping it for my dad because he was on nights at the time. They were both massive fans from the original British Invasion/Merseybeat/60s rock era. My mum’s American and was the typical screaming nutter; she even went to the Shea Stadium gig. My dad was a young guy in Yorkshire at the time, spending all the money he made down the pit on Beatles albums. When he moved to America, they had doubles in their collection, until someone’s got sold off. Whatever was left I ransacked in high school – Rubber Soul being my favourite – and played non-stop for the second time in their poor lives. The films and music had otherwise been the background noise to my growing up, really; I don’t have clear recollections, but I remember not knowing how I knew all the words by heart, getting two of my own Beatles albums (CDs if you will haha) for Easter one year, buying myself One, and having a Let it Be hoodie.
They were the soundtrack to my later high school years like they’d been for my mum in the 60s, but they felt like “mine,” if you know what I mean. They’re my comfort music, what I turn on when I’m upset about something and want to forget about it, or when I don’t know I’m upset at all until I realize I’ve played them on loop for hours. I’ve trekked up to Liverpool to do a dorky themed weekend. I’ll be doing the same in London soon. As soon as I finish being a research monkey and work up the cash, I’ll buy the remasters, a Wii, and the Rockband game ’cause it’s ridiculously fun.

Offline I got into the Beatles by curiosity. My mother likes the Stones better and dad likes Elvis, Little Richard and Bill Halley, so, no Beatles LP or casette in my childhood. When I was 17 years old, I started to appreciate music (Doors, Pink Floyd, Creedence, U2 and R.E.M.), then I bought “White Album ” CD, and there’s no coming back after that…
I'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.

Offline Well I can remember sitting in the back of my Grandads car and Eight Days A Week was playing. I asked my Grandad who sung it and he said The Beatles, As of then I listened and listened to continuous Beatles songs. And that’s how I got into the Beatles. And also, welcome to the forum

Offline I was five years old when the Beatles came to America. I saw them on The Ed Sullivan Show and have been a huge fan ever since.
Just to illustrate how unifying the Beatles were (and are), I grew up in a small farm town of about 2,000 in South Florida. The only radio station was a country station (and back then country was REALLY country, not the half-baked pop it is now). But my circle only listened to the AM station in distant Miami. And the Beatles came in and simply dominated the American psyche from the start. It’s almost hard to describe…everyone, everywhere, was talking about them. Not all in a positive sense of course. My parents thought they just made noise but were tolerant of our loving them.

Offline For me it was between the ages of 4 and 5 (1967/68). My older cousins were Beatles fanatics and got me into them. A couple of years later the lads broke up and I was crushed.
For the 10 years after the break up we kept hearing rumors (hopes?) that they would reunite, even for just one show and I never gave up hope.
Then December 1980 came along and I could not believe that John was dead. Again, crushed.
When George passed away I remember thinking, “My 2 favorite Beatles are gone. There is no justice in this world which means Ringo will probably outlive them all”. I really didn’t mean it – it was only my grief showing through. Sorry, Ringo.
Wow – did I just suck the fun out this thread or what?

Offline For me, it was a slow process of seeing what the fuss was about. I could say it started with the Yellow Submarine , but I’m going to go with seeing a room design in Better Homes and Gardens with a picture on the wall from their mad day out. So I asked for that, and I got it for my either my birthday or Christmas. Later I asked for SPLHCB , and was seriously WTFing over some of the songs. And then my brother took his Beatles class, and 9/9/09 rolled in and here I am. 
Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo! So little time! So much to know!

Offline I think my beatlemania started when I was about 16, before that I had heard them and liked them, but I hadn’t gotten into their albums very much so I wasn’t a huge fan. I listened to Revolver and that was pretty much it, the first time I heard I’m Only Sleeping something clicked for me, like I’m really tired, but who cares? Just let me sleep, I’m not doing anything wrong except dreaming. I remember the first time I listened to Abbey Road and just being stunned at how far they went from the absolute calmness of Sun King to the passion of Golden Slumbers , and there were just so many songs that I had heard as a kid that I was finally able to put a name to, like Because and Something .

Offline Since I was born. My sisters had at home Sgt Pepper , Let it Be, the White Album and Abbey Road , and I think an album with the best of early Beatles. I don’t quite remember the first time I heard them… Probably I was in my cradle….

Offline When I played Rock Band the Beatles for the first time my sister looked at me playing the drums and my nephew playing the guitar and my niece singing. She said “I never thought my chidren would love the Beatles”, to which my nephew replied “And most likely your grandchildren will”.

Offline Regrettably, it took the murder of John Lennon , and the immediate resultant radio tribute/retrospectives, to make me a major lifetime fan. I’d known the bulk of their hits and owned “Meet The Beatles” and a few singles (some of ’em since i was 6), but I’d never been exposed to all the late-period stuff, “A Day In The Life ” and “I Am The Walrus ” and all that, until my local AM radio station began to play all old Beatles and Lennon solo music. The fact that I was 13, the perfect age to become an obsessed fan, was a factor too.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Offline From birth to 1 year old(July 64 through June 65), my crib was against a neighbor’s wall and she played Beatles all day (or so mom says). From about age 4 to 10, my friend’s parents played Beatles all the time.
I was raised on it.

Offline Fate sent me this package of cereals with some toy in it. I could have got the blue ship or the red boat, but what did I get? The yellow submarine! My Dad found this kinda funny, so he played the song to me. That’s when it started.
Of course it didn’t really start at that point, I was about 5 or 6 then. But last summer, during a holiday in France, I just listened to some Beatles stuff I had incidentally on my iPod, out of pure boredom. And I fell in love with Eleanor Rigby and… please don’t laugh: Octopus’s Garden . From that moment, I couldn’t listen to any other music, and I haven’t. Really! 😀
