note: posts 1 -> 12, formerly of a thread called ‘A Cool Little Story’, were merged into here on the 6th October 2014 by meanmistermustard.

My dad just found this out the other day, and told me right away.  My dad has a friend, who has a wife named Rose.

Rose, who was a teenager at the time, and her little sister took a bus to Chicago to see The Beatles back in the day.  Rose and her sister somehow got separated after the show so Rose was walking all around the venue to try and find her sister.  Rose ended up by some security door at the back of the venue and just as she got there the door opened.  Out walked a-hard-days-night-george-10.  George asked, little girl what are you doing back here?  Rose said I have lost my sister and am trying to find her.  George bent down, kissed Rose on the forehead and said, I wish you the best of luck in finding her, I just came out here to have a cigarette.

Just thought I would shareheart

I'm surprised she didn't implode after that. 🙂

That is a sweet story!

My mom told me this other story about her Brit friend the other day…

Apparently he was in this pub with George. He said George was a pretty normal bloke, quite nice, and paid for his pint and what not.

I am eternally JEALOUS.

I've mentioned this before in another thread, but I think it's a great story.

My dad used to work with a man who met The Beatles at some sort of party in America, and he had a drink and a chat with them. He managed to get all four of their signatures, plus Brian's. He wanted to keep the autographs safe so sent them back to his brother in England, only to get a letter back from him saying “I hate The Beatles so I tore up the autographs and threw them away.”

I think it's great you're going through a phase,

and I'm awfully glad it'll all be over in a couple

of days

I know there’s already a thread specifically for members who’ve met the band, but I’ve been meaning to start a topic to link to blogs or websites I come across about great fan encounters.

The Examiner has an interview with Cindy Coffin, a woman who met all four Beatles, and had several amazing encounters with Paul during the ’70s. She started a blog that’s as much about the friendship she shared with three other fans as it is about meeting the Fabs. I’ve read all the posts she has so far, and she’s an engaging storyteller.

A sweet John encounter posted by The Examiner on this sad anniversary:

“They came towards me and I froze. I couldn’t speak, I was in shock. John says ‘Hello.’ All I could manage was a meek sounding ‘hi’ (and) nothing more. So he paused and said, ‘Goodbye.’ Hello, Goodbye ‘ as they walked away I snapped this photo, then cried tears of joy.

Posted at The Examiner:

Livia Edwords got an early Christmas present from Paul McCartney , she told Beatles Examiner Dec. 15. Through his company, MPL Communications Ltd., she received :The Love We Make” DVD, the “Band On The Run Archive Edition,” a copy of “NEW” and the “Live Kisses” DVD for two appearances she made in his music video and documentary.

Livia had her arm signed by Paul during this past year’s Outside Lands festival in San Francisco and that prompted two appearances in McCartney films.

“So y’know how Paul McCartney featured me in his music video and his documentary for ‘NEW’? Well, technically, nobody asked permission to use my image in this stuff,” she said on Facebook. “A disclaimer at the end of the documentary said they “attempted to find the persons featured”. So in an effort to make everything all good, I emailed MPL and gave them permission to use my image.”

“In the lyric video for ‘NEW,’ there’s video of me meeting him on stage,” she told us. And “in the ‘Something NEW’ documentary, Paul is talking about how he understands what it’s like to meet someone you admire so he empathizes with the fans and there’s more footage of me meeting him shown.”

“Christmas came early this year!!!,” she said.

Meet the Beatles for Real posted a series of photos over the weekend from a fan convention in 1963:

One of my all time favorite fan meeting moments occurred 50 years ago today!   That is of course the fan club convention held at the Wimbledon Palais on December 14, 1963.   I love how the Beatle sat there and signed autographs, allowed fans to touch their hair, posed for photos, and gave kisses to the girls in the fan club.   They say that 3,000 fans got to meet the Beatles that day, but it might have been slightly smaller because it was also said that some girls from the front of the line got back in the line and met them a second time!    After the meet and greet session, the Beatles held a concert for those fans.   What a day that must have been for those fan club members!   And what a truly amazing occurrence the Beatles had.   Today something like that would cost thousand upon thousand of dollars.

Meet the Beatles for Real is looking for certain famous first-generation fans to interview for the upcoming 50th anniversary of the US arrival. The list is pretty fascinating:

Beverly Rubin (nee Markowitz) –girl who snipped Ringo’s hair in D.C. at the embassy party
Debbie Waugh (nee Fyall) – the girl who poses for photos with 3 of  the Beatles in NYC
Kathy Fay — at the Washington D.C. concert
Debbie Levitt — was waiting for the Beatles at JFK
Annette Joseph Walker — was at JFK and at the Plaza when the Beatles wer there
June Harvey — was in the audience of the Ed Sullivan show
Linda Binns Liles — girl who was talking to Ringo on the train to D.C.
Eileen Harntett — girl who was photographed injured outside of the Plaza hotel
Barbara Turchin (married name might be Grossman) — one of the girls photographed with Ringo on the beach in Miami
Carol Olesky (married name might be Marks) — the other girl photographed with Ringo on the beach in Miami

Examiner interview with Jere Hester, author of Raising a Beatle Baby, plus promotional video. Terrific story of how his daughter met Paul:

Q: How did your daughter meet Paul McCartney ?
Jere Hester: “In October 2005, shortly after we took Charles (Rosenay’s) ‘Magical History Tour,’ he tipped our group that Paul would be signing copies of his (then) new children’s book, ‘High in the Clouds’ at the Barnes & Noble at Rockefeller Center. The night before the signing, after finishing a long shift at the New York Daily News where I was the city editor at the time, I decided to go sleep on the sidewalk and save a place for my wife, Theresa, and our daughter, Ella, then 8 and a Beatle Baby from birth.

“Well, I should have known better. The sidewalk was jammed with fans, some of whom had been camping out for a couple of days. Defeated, I went home to Theresa who suggested we pull Ella out of school the next afternoon and just stand outside the store – who knew, maybe she’d get a glimpse of him. We got into the store before lockdown, and bought Ella a copy of the book, which she promptly began reading. She caught the eye of Paul’s publicists who apparently noticed that for the huge crowd outside and inside the store for the signing of a children’s book, there weren’t any kids around – save for one.

“They approached and asked if Ella want to meet Paul. She immediately began shaking and sobbing like a teen girl out of ‘A Hard Day’s Night .’ She shook her head no – she was awed and terrified at the thought of meeting her idol. They told us to give a shout if she changed her mind. Theresa and I told Ella, basically, that you only regret the things you don’t do in life, and, over the course a few agonizing minutes calmed her down, until her ‘no’ became, well, a ‘yeah, yeah, yeah.’ Ella was escorted to the front of the line and put in front of the New York press corps — 50 strong. Paul came in, and joked with her — when he shook her hand, he wouldn’t let go and kept saying in mock exasperation, ‘Let go! Let go!’ They talked briefly about the book and our trip to Liverpool. Theresa and I both got to shake his hand and thank him for being a part of our lives.

“When it was all over, we were, of course, ecstatic. Then I had a moment of panic — my daughter was the photo-op for the event and her image would be everywhere, including, potentially, the competition. I called my boss and explained the delicate situation. He said, ‘We’ll they’ve all got the picture – we’ve got the story.’ So we rushed to the newsroom and helped Ella craft a first-person piece. Photos of Ella and Paul, and her story got picked up all over the world.

“The kicker is a couple days later a photographer pal shooting the next stop on Paul’s tour told Paul’s publicist, Stuart Bell, that he knew Ella. ‘Tell Ella Paul loved her story,’ Stuart told my friend. I tell it better in the book, of course, but it still gives me chills to even think about it.”
