It’s disappointing that they’re not putting up a plaque outside Brian’s home – again. As it said in the article, he bought in a lot of money to this country. I wonder what their reason is for saying no?

Maybe they thought giving his home a plaque would open the floodgates to considering too many other Beatle-related people? But it seems to me that he’s an exception.

^ Possibly, but, as you say, Brian wasn’t just another Beatles-person. Maybe if you’re not a fan you wouldn’t really see him as being any different to, Mal, for example. Sorry Mal mal-evans

The Telegraph summarized Paul’s interview with BBC Radio 2:

“The songs are quite varied. I was going to do one song with each producer and see who I got on with best but I got on with all of them.

“Paul Epworth is more, ‘let’s make it up’, Ethan is more acoustically inclined.”

“Before we went on the road I had a bit of time, so I started writing it then. I would drop my youngest daughter off at school then I would have a few hours, so that became a bit of a routine,” he added.

Sir Paul also admitted that he would like to perform live dates in the UK to promote the album.

“We’ve only got planned out the Japanese dates at the moment and we haven’t got anything planned after that… but I always like to finish the year in the UK. This is a new show so I’d love to show people – I like to show off.”

Anyone have a link to the original interview, btw?

Brian was on the shortlist for a Blue Plague but English Heritage, those who are involved in the scheme, have had to make cuts in their spending and so he was one of a number dropped. Maybe when finance picks up his home might get one. The Telegraph have an article on it explaining it better than me.

Via Reddit – Paul will be phoning in to WXPN today at 10am EST. You can listen live.

Someone posted the interview to SoundCloud. Interesting tidbit – the interview is with Helen Leicht, who created Breakfast with the Beatles.

Thanks for the link, mmm. It’s sad that, yet again, money is the reason behind something like this. I was gonna say how much could it possibly cost to make a flipping blue plaque, but £2000 to “install”!? What the hell!? Surely you only need a nail and a hammer!?
Someone will try again in ten years – hopefully we’ll get him one then.

Health and safety checks, paperwork, power (computers, lights), telephone costs (broadband, phone rental), tea and biscuits for the meetings, wages, van fuel, a bonus for whoever takes the credit for the idea… there will be tons of unknown expenses that actually make it a very costly exercise.

The play is actually an old one, first performed at the Everyman in Liverpool in 1981. It’s writer/director Bob Eaton gave an interesting interview to the Echo when he first restaged it at the Royal Court in 2010.

Not exactly “news”, but it does add to the above.

Also spotted this in the Echo from a couple of days ago, some idiot has painted part of the Strawberry Fields gates yellow. Luckily the originals are in storage.

If whoever did it thought John would approve (going by the message left behind “There is always a  field for imagination. John you  know you should be glad”) then he/she is a bigger idiot than your regular vandal.

A couple more Paul interviews:

89.3 in Minnesota. He talks about working with the sons of producers he’d worked with and about wanting to work with Prince.

WXRT in Chicago. Talks about his impact on people like Dave Grohl, deciding to play festivals, playing a few songs from the new album live and the Gershwin honors.

Paul now has an instagram account. From his site:

Paul has joined the photo and video sharing site Instagram and can be found under the profile name PaulMcCartney.

Fans who follow Paul on Instagram will get to see exclusive photos (and maybe even a video or two!) taken during the studio sessions for his ‘New’ album.

Follow Paul on Instagram HERE!

…and investigative fans may also find another ‘New’ Instagram account which we’ll be using to sneak out a few extra things. Can you find it?

* Interview with Mark Ronson where he mentions almost forgetting to return the call to Paul to DJ his wedding.

* Article about someone “fighting injustice” by serving meat to Paul’s crew at the Regina concert:

He wanted to send McCartney a message. That’s why he made the sandwiches with plenty of French’s yellow mustard.

That’s why he deliberately didn’t bring any napkins. “The roadies had mustard smeared all over them,” Uncle Duncan recalled.

“McCartney had to notice. He had to know it could only be the residue of unauthorized deli meats. It would have stuck in his craw.”

I’m no vegetarian, but if the story’s true, it’s pretty unsavory.

Brilliant, I have an Instagram account, so even I’ll be able to ”follow” him on something! :D

And the story about that guy serving up meat sandwiches to everyone has just completely shocked me. Why would you do that? If it’s Paul’s employees, he reserves the right to say what they can or can’t do. Whether him stopping people eat what they want is right or not is another question, but it’s not for some random person to interfere with.

* Interview with Paul in NME on sale this week about the new album. Paul’s site posts a bit that isn’t at the online version:

In the article Paul discusses the recording process and working with the four producers who helped put together his ‘New’ album; Paul Epworth, Ethan Johns, Giles Martin and Mark Ronson. The recording took around five months to complete over a period of eighteen months and included sessions in the producer’s own studios as well as Abbey Road and Paul’s Hog Hill Mill studio. The album has been mixed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent. The article reveals the name of two of the tracks from the album; ‘Alligator’ and ‘Save Us’.

* Article in The Sun about the new album. You need a subscription to view it so Paul’s site posted a quote:

Also published today is a story in The Sun, who name two more tracks; ‘Everybody Out There’ and ‘Queenie Eye ‘. The Sun say, ‘From what we’ve heard so far, Paul’s decision to work with great young producers on his first original pop album in six years has paid off.’

Edit: Article transcribed at Beatlefan’s FB.

* From The Hollywood Reporter:

BMG Rights Management, the music arm of German media giant Bertelsmann, on Tuesday unveiled a $150 million deal to take control of much of the music publishing business of U.S. independent music publisher Primary Wave Music.

The agreement will give BMG “significant rights in Primary Wave’s music publishing assets,” including such songs as Earth Wind & Fire’s “September,” Hall & Oates “Kiss on My List,” John Lennon ’s “I Want To Hold Your Hand ” and Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet It Is,” the firms said.

* Examiner interview with the producer of Good Ol’ Freda.

* Review of The Fifth Beatle at Comic Book Resource. [x-posted at the new Beatles book thread]

The Strawberry Field gates have been repainted red to counteract the work of a vandal who painted them yellow. However the owners are calling the repaint vandalism as well as the guy who painted them the second time didn’t have permission either.
