I'm starting this rolling thread to try to limit the number of one-off threads that are getting started. If you have any news, post it here (with a link to the article it comes from, ideally).

Beatles Examiner has posted an article regarding Paul's new album and that it could be a mixture of new tracks and old standards.

In an interview Paul mentions Rod Stewart, who has released what seems like 187 volumes of his Songbook albums, as one of the reasons why he hasnt done a standards LP yet.

A news article from Beatle Examiner that Stuart Sutcliffe has now not only got an official fan club (membership is free) but more importantly that there is also a recording of Stu singing Love Me Tender available on amazon.co.uk (it sounds like its been overdubbed).

Quite a big deal if its accurate, tho i have my doubts, some comments from Youtube suggest its an outtake from the film Birth of The Beatles by the band Rain and the Stu actor was signing.

The complete song is below.

Another video looks into the recording and if it is genuine, well worth watching.

feature=related

Best to save your 69p (if youre in the uk, tracks on amazon.co.uk are unavailable in the US) until its confirmed that its authentic.

Somebody in the comments mentioned that this version was used in a scene the Birth of the Beatles. I checked the youtube video, and they're very similar.

What do you think? It’s @ 4.44

Im open to be proved wrong but i cant see this being authentic. It sounds too clean, and wouldnt this make it the most presentable beatles recording from the early 60's yet? Would be better if it hadnt been overdubbed as we could just the vocals and anyway why would his estate overdub it first? They wouldnt lose anything if it was just Stu and a guitar or piano. And why no backing from John, Paul, George and Pete? Unless Stu did it when they had returned to Liverpool and left him in Hamburg.

In the second video on this (see above) it says that Astrid and Klaus have both said they dont think its Stu. And im sure that Astrid would know if it really was Stu.

I got really excited when i first heard it but the more i listen to it the more it sounds less than authentic.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-13 Why did I hear about this only until now, why? why? aaaarghghhhhh *bangs head and runs around the room and almost gets a heart attack*

Ok, I'm calmed down now. Almost. So. After watching the explanation video, it seems likely it won't be Stuart. I'm crying blood now. Although, in her book that Pauline released in 2001, she did say that there exists a record in which Stuart sings (and apparently Lennon plays?) that hasn't been found yet. Ok, I don't think there's Lennon in that one. If it is authentic, it's overdubbed. By someone. Why can't we ask about the “Birth of the Beatles band”? Yeah. I will do it now.

Ohh. But I don't even know if that band exists anymore. Fail.

So…Whoever that singer is, it matches my view of how Paul should sound. Of course it could fit Stuart's image as well. It's pretty beautiful, actually.

Should we believe Pauline? Y'know… I think she should be able to recognize her brother's voice, even if 50 years have passed. The question is, is she lying. Or if she “wants” to believe. My head is aching now. For two years I have really, really wanted to hear Stuart sing, but….a-hard-days-night-ringo-13 It pains me to know that I might still not have heard him do that.

Oh, misery.

edit: But I joined the fan club, of course. If only to see more pictures of him.

second edit: ok, it seems “Rain ” still exists, but there is no contact information for “casual fans”. Sneaky fellows.

third edit: Pauline's, and Stuart's, of course, grand-nephew says he has heard the original recording of the song, and claims that in the released version only “noise” has been reduced. Of course, compared to the sound improvement gear we have now is substantially different to the ones we had, let's say, in the 90s, when the anthology versions were released. And he says “there is no doubt this is Stuart”. But, being his grand-nephew, there's no way he could ever heard Stuart sing anything, right? I'm still sceptical. But I hope it's real.

More on the Stu record debate from Beatles Examiner. When asked, Bill Harry said he's not sure and Klaus said he didnt think it was.

This sounds interesting. Harry was a close friend of his, but so was Klaus. I don't know who to believe. I'm still waiting for Astrid and Paul's opinion, maybe they will clarify something.

Not convinced it's Stu? Does that mean she thinks it is evident he is not Stu or that it's not clear if it's Stu? And just where do you get all this information, I'm amazed

I had a look around online as it sounded dubious to say the least and somewhere there was a line that said that Astrid had said that she wasnt convinced it was Stu. I guess that means she is like the rest of us, not sure what to think at the moment.

It looks like people want to believe its Stu and thats whats keeping the story going. If it hadnt been Stu's family who had released it saying “this is Stu Sutcliffe singing” im sure everyone would have said it wasnt and the story would have slowly drained away. It offers hope that we can finally hear Stuart, something new from the beatles era which refuses to lose interest.

Looks like the Sutcliffe family are out to make a final few bucks while they can. Why begin a fan club, of all things, now? And considering they’ve admitted they don’t even know where the recording comes from and who’s on it, how are they allowed to release and profit from it? Hmmm.

The question is is if its revealed to be a fake do the folks who have bought the single get their money back as they would have bought a song they believed to be Stuart Sutcliffe which wasnt? If you pay £10 million pounds on a piece of art which pertains to be a genuine Picasso at a legal auction but is found to be a fake is the purchase vetoed? I would imagine it would be.

You know, I don’t think they are making millions with this single release… Considering how many views that song has in Youtube ( I know, that doesn’t tell everything). I got a link by an email to this article today:

http://daytrippin.com/2011/10/…..ffe/ Just some comparison made. Now I'm convinced it's not from the movie, at least. They sound substantially different.

According to Examiner.com, Astrid heard it years ago and says it isn’t him, and is choosing not to listen again.

Good Day Sunshine ” is the theme song for the current Hilton Hotel advertisements on television (in the US at least).

Imagine ! Bermuda Lennon Tribute CD’s Coming

Bermuda famously inspired John Lennon ’s last songs. And now Bermudian artists will have the opportunity to return the compliment with a new tribute CD of the former Beatle’s material. The CD — being produced by Ride the Wave charitable group — is to be released in conjunction with the unveiling of a memorial to the singer/songwriter/peace activist at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in the Botanical Gardens next summer.Mr. Lennon spent several weeks in Bermuda in 1980 after sailing here from the US, saying the island allowed him to reconnect with his creative muse after a five-year spell of writer’s block [he is pictured here with son Sean while visiting the island].
