Fun fact: This very thread is the second hit on google for “Beatles reloved”!

So I decided to give this a listen again, and after not-so-much digging discovered that it seems to be a remix project by an Italian DJ/producer named Agostino Carollo (the announcer mentions his name at one point) aka DJ Spankox. He is apparently one of 3 DJs to do an officially endorsed remix of an Elvis Presley song (link below). While some of the songs are not bad (Chains has decent arrangement and Please Please Me was pretty catchy), the rest sounds pretty amateurish for someone who was able to get endorsement from the Presley estate at one point. No offence to Mr. Carollo there. Just not digging most of the tracks on the album that much. This would have been better as an EP or single with more care taken on arrangement.

According to Wikipedia, he’s currently signed to EMI, which lends some credibility to it not being some dude in his basement trying to plug a Beatles record. It also explains the song choices (all from early EMI releases, probably reasonably cheap to get the rights for). At this point I’m assuming that he’s managed to clear the samples, but to call it a new record by The Beatles is pretty shady.

Wow! The Baby Let’s Play House clip is amazing! The Beatles used to play that song too in their early days. I think that whoever made this (and the Reloved album) deserves great respect.

3. Frankly, I’m really impressed with how well they isolated certain elements of the tracks.  I mean, in 1963, they were recording on two track machines and, in order to isolate any element of the early tracks, you need to use really clever mixing tricks.

5. “…enhance it with better and fuller instrumentation.”  That’s an awfully ballsy thing to say about the greatest band in history.  I can only say for sure that I don’t agree with this statement, but I don’t think that I’d be too out of line in assuming that most people on earth wouldn’t agree with this statement.

On point 3, that is nothing impressive. Please Please Me , With The Beatles and the accompanying singles were recorded on 2-track yes, but that two track contains instruments in the left and vocals only to the right, and that was used to balance better the mono mix. So, the stereo mixes are just that, the two-track master except for an added layer of reverb (the reverb is more notorious in the first album).

Hmm… good point. I hadn’t thought of that. I’m not big-headed enough to deny when I’m wrong, so I stand corrected.

Just discovered this thread. May be interesting for those concerned about the legitimacy of this project:

The Love Me Do remix (link earlier in this thread) was Spandkox, which is no surprise given the similarities in the hype and the mixes.

I bought that on CD. I was on holiday in Sweden last summer and I heard that remix on the radio.

Yeah, it’s the same guy – Spankox is hyping up the Reloved songs on his Twitter. MichWond is either him or working for him.
