OfflineI really hope this is okay. I think it's the first time I've started a thread.
Anyway, I didn't see one for general Wings discussion, and this seems the place for it. It's only tangential to The Beatles, although I'd say there's actually an important link between The Beatles and Wings in that the earlier Wings stuff seems to be very transitional to me; but in any case it's definitely relevant to Macca.
So go on then. Favourite Wings song? Current one you can't get past? Ever seen them live?
My dad saw them in Sheffield on the Red Rose Speedway tour when he was still living in England. He says he met Linda and one of the kids (would probably have been Stella, I think) and I get the impression that he was more into Wings than The Beatles. Such people exist! I certainly heard it more in his car growing up than in my mum's (she's the reverse, I think), and I didn't even know "Let 'Em In" til I heard it at the concert on Saturday and connected it with my dad singing it acapella around the house!
Right now I'm totally stuck on "Let Me Roll It." It's just an incredibly sexy song, from the organ in the beginning, to the bass line, to that driving guitar throughout…and finally the lyrics. I hadn't noticed til I heard it live, and it's just fantastic. It does a good job of summing up why music is so special, I think; the way it can overtake you, make you react in ways you don't expect and can't control, how it can move you physically, etc. (My other favourites are Rockshow and the Christmas one – it's just a great holiday tune! It also helps that I grew up with it.)

OfflineA few years ago I picked up Wings Greatest. There is a lot of great music on that disc and here are my favorites from it.
Another Day – it's so Beatley (Christ, I'm using that adjective/adverb a lot lately)
Live and Let Die – I dig the contrast of the slow parts against the fast.
Junior's Farm – What's not to like? Great guitar work on this one.
Let 'em In – Wasn't really a favorite til recently when Mithveaen shared her Macca concert vids with us – the lighter thing was cool!
Jet- If the Four stayed together, I feel they would have sounded something like this in '73.
Mull of Kintyre – You'd have to have no soul to dislike this one.
In adition, I agree with Jenn that Let Me Roll it is fantastic. I still have Macca's concert from 2003 in St. Petersburg in my DVR (can't bring myself to erase it!) and he does a great version of this.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.

Although I will add that I've always loved "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey", and a lot of people hate it.
The first time I heard that on the radio (when it was new), I thought it was The Beatles. I love that song!

OfflineI highly recommend London Town by Wings. It's a great moderately-long album filled with great little tunes and ditties, including the great Mull of Kintyre. Check it out, check it out!
And overall, I'm quite a fan. All of Paul's post-Beatles work is worth a listen.

OfflineI agree with your list Zig but in 2 songs : Junior's Farm and Mull of Kintyre… because I haven't heard them or if I have, I don't know their names… thanks to my sister and her not sharing the albums with me..

Zig, I agree with your list…except for "Let 'em In." That's just one abysmally bad song. I couldn't wait for it to end when I saw Paul in Miami. I can't understand why people like it.
I undestand you Mr. K… but sometimes you link songs to memorable moments like this..
The lyrics could be the worst in the whole world.. but man… just being there and doing that with my lighter.. that makes this song one of my favorite ever. *sighs* I'm still in Macca Planet.

I'm still a novice with Wings, but I like BotR and V&M. Do you plan to get the remastered versions?
I'd completely forgotten about them, actually! I remember seeing it announced and then…that was it. Now I can't find where I saw it announced, which I'm sure was paulmccartney.com, and even googling it brought up sketchy results – no real details on a date, no real details on any official or credible source that I could see.
But, to answer your question, I definitely do. I still have yet to get The Beatles remasters, so perhaps between those and the Lennon remasters. (I'm not overly bothered about them.) My bank account hurts already. Wingspan will have to suffice for a bit I think.
…
mithveaen, WOW! How had I not seen your video before? I agree with Macca: that light thing is great! Is it a Mexican tradition? I've never seen it in videos of his other gigs around the world. It'd have been cool to see it in Cardiff, though I personally don't smoke and have issues even getting a lighter to work. I'd rub my finger raw on the little wheel thing and get nowhere!
…
I'd also say "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "Silly Love Songs" are up there among my favourites. The former is probably one of the most perfect love songs known to mankind; most music is about love, and most of it is crap in comparison to that song.

Here you go Mithveaen…enjoy.
In this one – try not to laugh too hard at Linda's makeup. Yikes!

Well it's the first big concert I ever go to Mexico City (all of the big concerts are held there) but I know people do that in concerts. I read in some Mexican websites that in Paul's 2002 concert people did the same, not that cool way though.
Re: Mull of Kyntire.. wow!! It's amazing!! I have a weak spot for songs with pipes… I'll check the lyrics. I'll have to get in iTunes a Wings.
Re: Junior's Farm…. I like it!! It's very … Paul! I'll have to check in my iTunes some Wings songs to spend my 20 USD I still have. And that make up doesn't scare me at all.. after all I'm a child of the 80s!! Thanks for sharing Zig!!
Jenn: Let it roll it is one of my favorites too!! I love it in Good Evening New York City..
BTW Another Wings song I like a lot: No more lonely nights. I really really have fond memories of that one. I was in high school and me and my friends would sing the chorus and mumble the rest of the song since we didn't know the lyrics or any English BTW LOL!! (I learned English properly when I was 18)

Offline"No More Lonely Nights" is great! The first time I heard it, I though it was sooo adorable, "you've only got my heart on a string, and everything a-flutter!" *squeals*
"Wonderful Christmastime" is my favorite Christmas song of ALL TIME. ALL. TIME.
"Mull of Kintyre" is super good… I always find myself singing that in a Scottish accent when it comes up on my iPod.
I think the main reason I love Wings so much is their
harmonies… like on "Mamunia", they're just so beautiful!
My favorite Wings songs, though, are always the cheesy ones. Which is most Wings songs
. I really like "Goodnight Tonight" and "Baby's Request". I guess Macca was just an ol' fashioned guy.
But "Mamunia" by faaarrr is my favorite Wings song.
Right now, "C Moon" is stuck in my head.
It's too catchy!

Offline"No More Lonely Nights" isn't a Wings song, I don't think. It's off "Give My Regards to Broad Street" which was a solo effort. (And a really bad film, by all accounts, but the single was a massive hit. My dad loved that album and I still remember the cassette cover.)
I'll have to go track down "Mamunia." I don't think I've heard it.
Mithveaen, I have shown two friends your video today!
Hiya Fiendish, don't think we've "met" before. I was AWOL thanks to my coursework when a lot of people joined in the last few months.

Still, it's good.
I've never seen "Give My Regards"… I kinda want to.
PLEASE listen to "Mamunia". It's SOOO GOOD! Watch the video too!
Hi, jenn! It's nice to "meet" you!
