I think the real reason might be pretty boring.

Most professional acts record a large percentage of their shows, to later review the sound mix, the setlists and the performances. They also do it in case some "magic" happens that night, and there's potential for a release of live tracks as b-sides, singles or entire live albums.

A lot of acts have had their shows professionally filmed as well for the same reasons. If you look around for video bootlegs, you'll find a surprising number of shows recorded professionally with multiple cameras.

Possibly some or many of you know that paul recorded wings' concert in glasgow on 17th december 1979. About 2 weeks later paul played a very similar songlist on the final day of the concerts for the people of kampuchea. I read that paul was planning to release a live album with all the songs from the glasgow concert, but at that time only the live version of coming up was released on the b-side of the coming up single. A bootleg called last flight with all songs (coming form paul's tape) was later released. I think now paul wants ...
