I love 1985 Paulsbass… I dunno. When Paul wants to be grandiose by God he sure is. And I mean grandiose in a good way. That building at the end… just fantastic.

I got a question with that one, did he fake the voice or was it altered in the studio? a-hard-days-night-paul-6

Hi Mith.

I think it's just Paul singing with a funny "frog" voice. You can hear that sometimes he sounds more normal.

The end is fantastic, when the orchestra sets in after the drum break. Love his shouts and screams!

Edit:

Check out this live version from his recent tour, he even tries the "fake" voice there, sounding not quite as well as in the original. Still funny, though!

1985 is one of their best songs. I still remember hearing that last year. Great song, with one of his famous array of voices being used.

I tried to think of something powerful and moving… and failed.  "You were given a choice between war and dishonor - you chose dishonor, and you shall have war" - Winston Churchill

I dunno…. I just can't make top ten lists… and with such little knowledge of Wings discography.

Oooh…this is a hard one! I suck at making lists, so I'll post 10 songs that immediately come into my head.

Little Lamb Dragonfly

Love in Song

Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five

Old Siam Sir

Venus and Mars/Rockshow

I'm Carrying

Band on the Run

Some People Never Know

Letting Go

And one unreleased track because I am listening to it right now: 1882

Oh, add Love In Song to my list, I love the 'Happiness in the homeland' part.

Well this list won't be very good because I've had little time to listen to really any of his material, but from what I've heard these are my 10 favorite Wings songs.

  • My Love
  • Bluebird
  • Venus and Mars/Rockshow
  • Silly Love Songs
  • Goodnight Tonight
  • Beware My Love
  • Let 'Em In
  • Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five
  • Cafe on the Left Bank
  • Helen Wheels
  • Love in Song

And an honorable mention to Waterfalls, it was done post Wings, so it can't be included on the list. But as you can probably tell I've only listened to compilations, Band on the Run, and Venus and Mars. So this isn't the best list to go by.

1) Call Me Back Again – What a groove! What a vocal! What a classic Macca bassline!

2) Letting Go - Sludgey riffs and swanky horns. Again…what a groove!

3) Live and Let Die – This one is the show stopper in concert!

4) Let Me Roll It – Another bluesy groove and great riffs. This one is amazing to have seen live!

5) Old Siam Sir – Heavy Metal McCartney…nuff said!

6) Red Rose Speedway Medley – Pure sugar. Pure Macca!

7) Silly Love Songs – Almost sums up The Beatles. And, another great bassline!

8) Hi Hi Hi - What a pothead…

9) The Mess – What a rocker!

10) Magneto and Titanium Man – Fun and bouncy. Can't help but whistle this one all day!

11) Jet – That's right, I went one more…I could go one hundred more when it comes to WINGS!a-hard-days-night-paul-11

In no order of favouritism.

1. Live and Let Die
2. No Words
3. With A Little Luck
4. Beware My Love
5. Wild Life
6. I Am Your Singer (a gorgeous duet with Linda)
7. Mama's Little Girl
8. Medicine Jar (not a Paul lead vocal but a fabulous rocker)
9. C Moon
10. Hi Hi Hi

And a shout out to Walking In The Park With Eloise. Written by Paul's dad it was released under the name 'The Country Hams' but featured all of Wings. A wonderful tune that always gets my foot tapping.
