I just bought the 4cd, one dvd ram edition and at first listened to thrillington. I love it. I think it sounds great in it's jazzy instrumental style. GReat to listen while you do something else. I listen to it right now. Is there anything similar with other paul, george, john or beatles albums? That would be great. HAve you eaver listened to thrillington? Do you like it?

I wanted to get it but refuse to be forced into paying £68 or whatever it is for the set, expecially when you can get the first 2 discs for less than a tenner. I get annoyed whenever the topic of Ram comes up as i hate being ripped off. If this is how the rest of the remasters come then sorry Paul but you aint getting my money, I'll pay over the odds for the Beatles but everything else can get lost and that includes solo. blue-meanieblue-meanie

I listened to Thrillington on YouTube, and I enjoyed it. Only one listen so far, need to have another go.

This is kinda nice, really enhances the melodicism and song construction of the "Ram" material. Interesting arrangements with unusual instrumentation and a squeaky-clean, fat production. Progressive but easy-listening but (gently)-rocking jazzy little tunes, given a little tweaking in the studio to give the whole thing a nice little studio rock-era sheen. A few first impressions:

-Oddly swirling background vocals on the coda of "Too Many People" – mildly reminiscent of "I Am The Walrus"

-Big-band blues that momentarily turns funky makes for a surprising version of "3 Legs". Great horns here (and throughout)

-"Smile Away" and "Monkberry Moon Delight" – almost a swing-jazz version of what Paul probably thought of as hard-rocking songs. Guica!

-"Dooby-doo wah!"-style wordless backing vocals on "Heart of the Country" and "Dear Boy" are so idiotically cheerful and mindless and genteel-perky to react at with anything other than a smile.

-"Eat At Home" is ska or bluebeat or something like that. Nice!

Other tunes I'll have to listen to again a few times to get a better impression of, but this is a nice entertaining bit of ear-candy. Great recording job too, with just enough weird sounds and effects to keep me reassured. I can't imagine I'll want to listen to it more than a dozen times (doubt I'd ever PAY for it, unlike Ram itself which I've already bought twice) but I'm glad I've heard it nonetheless. (Even if it's as much a tribute to the efforts of arranger Richard Hewson than our Paul)

One day, a tape-op got a tape on backwards, he went to play it, and it was all "Neeeradno-undowarrroom" and it was "Wow! Sounds Indian!" -- Paul McCartney
