I'd heard about the award but didn't really register the significance of it. It's hardly been reported here in the UK.

I think the award was for more than just his work with The Beatles, although in honesty it's hard to imagine he'd have had the award without it. I don't know about the rules for awarding it, but I don't suppose they give it posthumously - aren't recipients supposed to donate something and perform at a ceremony? It'd be interesting to see how that could be done for Lennon Surprised

Paul has been awarded the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. He is only the third recipient, and the first non-US awardee.

So, what do you think? Should it have been a Lennon/McCartney award? Should they give it to John next year? Should they wait until Yoko is not available to accept, then give one to John?
