I think he's gone bye-bye, guys.

Yeah, he is in need of some therapy AND a long rest.

I have a few thoughts on this. First, I wonder if this will be only for Japan, or if the rest of the world will get to see this train wreck, er, the fruits of Paul's creativity!

Already mentioned the showdown between Peaceman and the robot in another thread.

Third, I think Paul should hold a Name that Robot Contest. So far I have Tourbot 3000, but given some time I can come up with better.

Well, if this is a short-term insanity thing for this tour, he could call the robot NEWbie or something of the sort.

I've been meaning to comment on this video. I think it is a bit embarrassing for him to make that face and say that he is ready to see their "cute little faces." Something is just messed up about that. Not good, Paul. Who let you put that video out there?

Paul's message to Japanese fans about his upcoming tour. Too kawaii for words.

NEWbie – that's good!

Yeah, Paul's had… issues in the past. There's the "Frozen Jap," the "jap tart" note, the photos with the slant eyes… I think I just repressed this latest video. But, no, not cool.

See no problem whatsoever with Paul's comment. Can't you say to a Japanese girl or boy that he or she has a "cute little face" or is that outlawed by punishment of being thought of as culturally inappropriate?

To me it sounds like he is talking about adults too, not just little children.

So a Japanese woman or man can't have a cute little face? Some people over here it say it to their partners or friends in a jokey complimentary way.

The tone of voice just hit me as being demeaning. Interesting that people can hear that two different ways. I wish I could hear it with your ears and perspective, mmm. I'm a Paulette after all. I should lean toward seeing all his actions in a positive light.

I thought he was being cute, funny and more than anything Paul.

There's nothing wrong with seeing Paul's comments/actions in a realistic light. It doesn't mean he's a horrible person or that you like him any less. If his words strike you as demeaning, there's something to that. I'm sure he didn't intend it that way, but that doesn't make his words any less uncomfortable or even disturbing.

MMM, you may not see a problem whatsoever with Paul's words, but don't just dismiss those who do. We already know, as noted above, that Paul has had previous issues with his portrayals of Japanese people. He's not alone – generally speaking, Westerners have a history of infantilizing Asians, and it's not out of the realm of possibility that he still has some lessons to learn about stereotypes. Again, doesn't make him a horrible person nor does admiring him make him above reproach.

What the hell is everyone so offended for?  Jesus Christ.  a-hard-days-night-john-7

Sorry if I didn't word it nicely enough, I'm just really confused.  What did he say that was so offensive?

Edit:  Just got rid of it.  I guess how I responded was also offensive.

Sorry I cause such as sh*t storm.

But, I'm actually glad I posted my thoughts so that mmm could give me a differing opinion to mull over. If I hadn't made that post and gotten his response, I would have gone on assuming that everyone had a low opinion of what Paul said/how he said it. Discussion is enlightening.

Well, now it looks like I was responding to dead space [Edit: before you edited it again to include the comment], so I'll have to paraphrase; the way you responded was dismissive, particularly with the "Jesus Christ," implying that there wasn't a worthwhile point to be made, putting others on the defensive. And I know you don't like it when you feel that's been done to you, so I ask you to be respectful.

Anyway, When I Get Home, assuming someone else hasn't already responded to you, I'll watch the video again and comment.

In my OPINION, if people did take any offence, they are being overly sensitive.  That's my opinion.  I am entitled to that, and I not?  It's an open forum, is it not?

I don't do things like make fun of peoples weight or how they look.  I don't do silly things like call people "retarded"…  but seriously, people are offended by everything these days.  It gets on my nerves.

The problem i have is that its getting to the point where its getting difficult for anyone to say anything without some offense being taken or some cultural connotation being unpicked, or stitched together, from the fabric. And normally those who we think are being offended, and therefore need to take a stand for, fail to see what the heck the furore is all about and are getting on, or trying to get on with their lives.

Im not aiming this at AG or anyone on this forum, its about how things are going (see the Roy Hodgson Racism Joke two weeks ago as an example).

And now i'm shutting up. Let peace prevail.heartheart

I agree and I don't think you have anything to apologize for.
