I used to be in the "this is granny music camp." Slowly but surely I have been converted to fandom. I actually enjoy Ebony and Ivory, Say Say Say, etc. My wife is still firmly in the OTHER camp. Yesterday in the car, I was playing some pop tunes by McCartney and my wife complained, "This is sappy! Can we listen to some music with testosterone?"

So I played some Lennon tunes and she was pacified. She especially enjoyed "Cold Turkey."

^^ John did quite a few songs that could be classed (in his own words) as that, which I, too, find ironic. In fact, he was writing similar stuff to Paul at the same time in some cases.

I've never really thought of 'Martha, My Dear' like that, even though I suppose it makes sense. I love that song so much so imo by no means was his ''Granny Shit'' music shit.

I love Paul's "granny shit" songs.

Honey Pie, Martha My Dear, and When I'm 64 are three of my favorite Beatles songs. I like Baby's Request a lot too, but I prefer the Kisses on the Bottom version over the Back To The Egg version.

Considering Paul's post-Beatles oeuvre, there are quite a few songs that I don't particularly like (99% of them from Venus and Mars forward -- with exceptions that prove the rule).

However, of the Paul songs which I don't like, most happen to be rockish songs. He tends to never disappoint me when he indulges his poppish, folkish, and/or grannyish side (which is not to say I don't love some of his great rockers -- Helen Wheels, Junior's Farm, Mumbo, Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five, Get On the Right Thing, Too Many People; etc.)

I like the vast majority of Paul's music. I used the term ''granny shit'' as that's what John called it (and is also the word that was being used before this thread died out). I don't think it's shit.

ITSWD, I meant the general pop-y/written in under 10 minutes type of songs, not just the hall-esque (which I actually quite like).

Depends on your definition of "granny shit"

If you mean 20's and 30's music hall stuff, I don't know that he's written that many more such songs in his post-Beatle days unless you count his Kisses on the Bottom album which is 100% granny shit.

The main granny shit song would be "You Gave Me the Answer"

Now if you consider his facile songs - songs that took him 30 seconds to write [Smile Away, Follow Me, Freedom] - and/or his maudlin songs [With a Little Luck, No More Lonely Nights], then yes, there are many more of those. I think. It's those songs ...

I thought back to this thread last week when I watched 'Wings over America'. I think it's fair to say that Paul wrote more ''granny shit'' post-Beatles than with them (please correct me if I'm wrong). Why was that? Is it because he began to enjoy it more, or because he now was the leader of a band and he didn't have the pressure of John coming up with something better/telling him that it wasn't good enough?

A little question that I haven't been able to answer for myself, yet.

McCartney 2 has got some electronic music which i have to be in the mood for (i love Temporary Secretary however) but overall its a very strong album and in my opinion deserves to be given time to appreciate. One of these Days is a beautifully soft tender song and a real gem buried in the Macca depths.

However its all personal, i cant stand Memory Almost Full and some folk here love.
