Listened to this for the first time today. It wasn't really my cup of tea. I will give it a second listen however, thanks to the second from last track, The End Of The End . It's really the only one that made me turn up the volume.
Initially, I'm glad I only paid $3 for it. I also thought, this may be a bit of a clunker (my opinion only) by Macca standards but most musical acts could only hope for something this good.
Still looking forward to exploring more solo stuff from the second Beatle.
Did you like Mr. Bellamy? It's my favorite song off the cd. If you haven't listened to it again, I'd give that one another listen. Also, That Was Me…I love the bass in that song, and the part where he does the sort of screaming vocals gives me chills. Love it!

Offline I LOVE this album, I just bought it and have listened to it a lot!! My favourite songs off of it are…Mr. Bellamy, Dance Tongiht, Ever Present Past, House of Wax, and Nod your head…Give it time…It'll grow on you…Good ole Paulie…

Offline Thanks all – I haven't given up on it by any means – only listened to it once. It will get listened to again at least once this weekend.
It's included on my “All Macca All The Time” playlist in my iPod.

Offline So, this morning on my way to the office I'm listening to my “Macca” playlist which features this album at the end. I decided to let it play on. All of a sudden I heard someone singing and tapping their fingers.
Lo and behold, it was me. Thanks again for encouraging me to stick with it.

I don’t think so. There’s a deluxe edition which has a bonus CD in which he talks about each song (one day I’ll turn it into a series of articles here). I don’t recall him saying any were from the Wings era – do they sound like that to you?

I'd love to read that. Some of those songs seem to really have a solid story behind them, and I'd be intrigued to read about them all. Mr. Bellamy, for example – isn't that a fantastically odd song?
Also, Joe, as I haven't made contact with you before, I must say how much I love the website… It's provided me with endless Beatles knowledge for a very long time now.

The McCartney stuff is a work in progress – I’ve done a few album articles, but the songs will probably come much later (if at all). I thought I might do them as the albums are reissued, which would make the huge back catalogue less daunting.

Offline A few thoughts I had this morning while listening to the album while getting ready for work:
Only Mama Knows: I immediately started picturing one of those Facebook posts where someone holds up a sign saying “Help me find my mother.”
Feet in the Clouds: Who do you think this line is about “Love is fab it’s like a stab in the heart”? Is it Mills? The album came out in 2007 and their divorce was in 2008.
Gratitude: And any other of his solo songs where he sings the word yeah, especially if he repeats it. Makes me think of Paul saying it… shhhhhh, Ahhh Girl

I made this comment on another thread,
I think Bellamy is Paul. Other singers want him to come down from his perch so they can be more popular, but Bellamy is telling them he still has a lot more in him to write, sing, and perform.
And then on another thread I said that I would like to converse with you about the song. So what do you think of my interpretation. Here’s a little more:
That one point where it says “Oooo, don’t frighten him”, I imagine other rock stars saying, “if you get him riled up he will punch out even more songs that will put us all to shame.” Which then makes me think of Paul’s song “Alligator” on New.
All others are welcome to join in this conversation also.

Now onto the “House of Wax”. People keep mentioning the cool, neat guitar solos in the song. So I listened for them really, really hard this morning. Now, I realize why I never heard them (or paid any attention to them) before. They come right after Paul sings and then spectacularly groans/grunts the word “all”. *heart beat just increased 80 fold just thinking about it* And the second instance of him doing that has him singing “yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah” right after those groans. No way Ahhh Girl can even think about guitar music after that. Her mind is GONE. Elsewhere.
I think he put “The End of the End” after “House of Wax” just to sober me up and bring me back to Earth and reality again.
