OfflineI just got this album and I love it!! Nice and warm. So far my instant favorites are Somedays, Little Willow, Calico Skies (though I prefer the Good Evening NYC version) and If you wanna. But ask me tomorrow and I might choose other ones.

OfflineI'm glad to see both of you reacting positively to this album. I've never heard it, but have seen Macca do the title track live on a concert I recorded from 2003 in Russia. I thought that was a cool song and have been wanting to hear more of the album.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.

OfflineI recommend you this album Zig… I love all the colors of Macca (well, most of them) but Macca nice, down-to-earth is just irresistible.

Is it mostly his playing (ala McCartney, And McCartney 2) or does he use his band As on Flowers in the Dirt?

OfflineIt's mostly him, accompanied by co-producer Jeff Lynne, sometimes Steve Miller and Ringo Starr!
Sadly it's also the last album to feature Linda on backing vocals.
When I first heard "Young boy" I thought "Oh, no, he's doing Hope of deliverance again!" But it turned out it was among the weakest songs on the album, the rest is mostly great!
He tried to get some Beatles-feeling, inspired by the work on Anthology, which reminded him "of the time we DIDN'T spend in the studio". So he made very simple arrangements and did quick recording and mixing sessions.
And it's indeed his most beatly album ever. One amazingly simple but beautiful song after another.
The first song "The song we were singing" is probably my favourite.
Others are "Somedays", "Little willow", "Beautiful night", "Calico skies".
The two blues songs with Steve and Ringo are not that spectacular, imo.
A huge extra-kudos to Paul for being the ONLY artist I know that had Jeff Lynne producing without sound like ELO!! He was just co-producing with Paul, so I guess Paul told him he wanted more of a Beatles-sound.
All in all a fantastic album – which I listened to a few times too often, so right now I don't take it out that often. But it will return for sure.
Oh wow, now I had 11+10, too!

OfflineThanks for that, paulsbass. I especially like the fact that you find this to be "his most Beatley album ever." High praise indeed.
And mith, you said "Macca nice, down-to-earth is just irresistible." I agree. I thoroughly enjoy a his Beatle stuff like that. Stuff like Yesterday, I've Just Seen a Face, Mother nature's Son, etc…
I can't wait to hear the whole thing now.

Say, which other Paul album do you recommend me to get? A friend of mine uses as a nickname FlowersintheDirt because she loves that one. What do you think?

When I was in High School, my best friend had Wings at the Speed of Sound. We wore that sucker out. It was almost transparent!

OfflineThat's The Problem with Being One of the only Beatles fans at my school. 1 Day, (and we play a song before our day begins) I was Running late, ran to my locker, ran into my class and heard someone say "Evan, That's Your Song". I am the Classic rock dude at my school, or at least in my class. Edit: They were playing "I Am The Walrus"

I kind of agree with Paulrus: He got better and better with age!
I mean, check out his last albums: Flaming pie, Driving rain, Chaos and creation, Memory almost full – all good (DR) or great (the other 3). Chaos and creation might be my favourite Macca album of all time. GET IT!!
Other must haves (imho):
Flowers in the dirt
Tug of war
Back to the egg
Press to play (his biggest flop, maybe because it's the most un-paulish album. I like it a lot!)
Venus and Mars
Band on the run (obviously)
Ram (Monkberry Moon Delight ALONE is worth the money!!)
All his other albums also have lots of great songs. The only really weak ones are (imho) Wings Wild life, Red rose speedway, Wings at the speed of sound, Give my regards to broad street, Pipes of peace, McCartney I and II.
And even THOSE all have some nuggets to discover.
AND there are literally dozens of singles, b-sides and obscure tracks he never seriously put together. Check out "The loveliest thing" and "Once upon a long ago".
