OfflineThat's true. But I still can't understand why Paul felt the need to steal a riff, when he was the greatest Bass Player of that time (Let's not get into that here)

Yeah, but it was composed in 1962. He wasn't the greatest bass player in the world at that point. He was just Paul.
The Beach Boys stole a whole riff and song from Chuck Berry for "Surfin USA"!
Anyway, I agree with Paulrus. But I have to admit, the knowledge takes something away from Paul for me (although I read "Many years from now". Must have missed that bit). Still my favourite man! And the "ONE TWO THREE FOUR" is still his!
There's a nice version of "Talking about you" on youtube – played by the Beatles! And it TOTALLY sounds like "I saw her standing there"!

And Got sued for it.

OfflineThere's nothing wrong with using a great bass part for an entirely new song. Haven't you ever heard the expression "Bad artists copy, great artists steal"? I've known "…Standing There" for 30+ years, "I'm Talking About You" for well over 20. And yet the songs are so dissimilar that I didn't even notice that they had the same bassline until I read Paul's remarks somewhere (possibly here) a couple of years ago.
"Drive My Car" was inspired by Otis Redding's "Respect", and that certainly doesn't take away the greatness of either song.

Never. Although, that's a tad redundant. Copying is stealing.

I really like the bass line in Dear Prudence. I didn't realize how good of a bass line it was until I heard the song on the radio. Only adds how amazing the song is.
Radio stations play Dear Prudence?

OfflineThe two radio stations in NY that I listen to tend to play more album songs than singles. Once I heard Rocky Raccoon and Martha My Dear on the radio.
Well, these stations are the Classic Rock and Oldies stations who designate certain times to the Beatles. They are cool to do so.

OfflineBack in the early '90s, CHUM-AM in Toronto advertised an upcoming "Beatle Weekend" during which they'd play "every" Beatles track in alphabetical order. "Wow!" I thought, imagining an AM station playing "Revolution 9" and "Why Don't We Do It In the Road" and whatnot. But it turned out they were LYING, and only played the "famous" songs. Jerks!

OfflineAny bass line Paul plays is the best bass line in the universe.
I love Lucy in the sky and Lady Madonna, Rain…too many..my girlfriend learns them all and I am constantly amazed at the simplexity of them all.
Paul is God as far as bass lines go – every bass player should learn every Paul bass line as part of their education.
Me I play guitar….
