My Band On The Run album feature is here, if anyone fancies a read: http://www.beatlesbible.com/pe.....n-the-run/

I still have to write about the final three songs, but those can wait a little longer. a-hard-days-night-paul-11

Read it and left comments. Is this all you're doing for Paul for right now? I thought you wanted to cover George's work first.

Edit: His comment about Band on the Run is interesting. He originally said the he got "If we ever get out of this place" from George, but now he says he doesn't remember it that way. (The Making of Paul McCartney)

Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo! So little time! So much to know!

I was going to to George's stuff first, but I don't think I'll do either of them as thoroughly as I have done the Lennon songs/albums. I've decided to just do bits here and there for George and Paul, and the spur with this was the reissue of BOTR. If more come out I might do them in time, but really I must get the Beatles history thing finished first.

Interesting interview in that link. Perhaps he forgot about the origins of the line after all these years. Who knows? I also wonder if 'Let me roll it to you' was intentionally a George quote - I've not read McCartney say anywhere that it was.

Thanks for letting me know the corrections for the article. Much appreciated.

Why would they rerelease the Harrison Stuff
His stuff was remastered in the early 2000's

This thread was a riot to read through. Before I comment on the album, I just have to make this note about post #9 in this thread:

Joe said

When I went to George Martin's talk last week, we were allowed to submit questions to be selected randomly. One of mine was read out: I asked whether there were any Beatles songs he wished had been recorded/produced differently. George's response was simple: "God forbid!"

@Joe got to go to a George Martin talk. And he's had a pint with Mark Lewisohn. And he went to the lecture in Studio 2 on his birthday this year. :-) ahdn_george_01

That post also finds Joe being very poetic about Strawberry Fields Forever:

Needless to say, I think it's a masterpiece. I couldn't agree that it's garbage because the lyrics don't make sense – the words are an impressionist painting in song; few would argue that Monet would have been better if only he'd been a bit more accurate in his depictions.

Now, back on topic.

Listening to "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five" is like gorging on music. It is the whole Thanksgiving dinner, including dessert. I just have to take quiet rest break after listening to it.

There is this lyric in the song:

Oh my mama said the time would come when I
would find myself in love with you
I didn't think
I never dreamed
That I would be around to see it all come true

Paul, now come on. Your Mother Should Know. You know that. She told you to Let It Be. Things will work out in their own way and their own timing.

I found this that skye saidback in 2010. Funny. Actually, the posts before (starting on page 10) and after that one (ending on page 11) are quite entertaining.

skye saidJet? I haven't seen her since nineteen hundred and eighty five.

ha ha - nice resurrection.

I love both the songs the OP hates.  This thread is a perfect example of not being able to please all the people all the time = lucky we have so many songs and albums to keep all of us happy, whatever our tastes.

This from Mamunia

A seed is waiting in the earth
For rain to come and give him birth

It's all he really needs to set him free

made me think of this from "Off the Ground"

Though it takes a lot of power
To make a big tree grow.
It doesn't need a pot of knowledge.
For a seed knows what a seed must know.

I know that everyone has their own taste and all, but calling Strawberry Fields Forever ''garbage'' is something else. Nickelback is garbage. Not THAT song. Anyway, I don't even think anyone needs to defend it. It's a masterpiece, as has been said.

I love Band on the run too, btw.

However, I like reading people's opinions on songs. It's always interesting to hear what makes or breaks a song for them.

It doesn't make sense for about a page because of the paulsbass post massacre of 2014.

Still interesting. Mr. Big seems pretty opinionated, from what I've read. Isn't he the one that started the thread contending that George was a better bassist than Paul?

That I can't remember, but I don't think Inner Light showed up here until Mr. Big was long gone. I don't know if Inner Light would claim that George was the superior bassist, anyways. (Pretty sure he was all over that contentious "Paul vs. George on Lead Guitar" thread, though. That one brought out the worst in many of us!)

[EDIT: Wrong thread - the thread I was thinking of is actually "Who was the Beatles' best guitarist?", a thread now rendered amusingly incomprehensible with Paulsbass' comments now all stricken.]

Yeah, i remember that thread. Not happy times and hopefully wont be unearthed, unlike the ADITL Ahhhhh's threads i've never went back to "Paul vs. George on Lead Guitar" one.

I'm pretty sure Inner Light has said in one or two threads that he didnt think George was a better bass player than Paul but may be wrong.

Well, back on topic, BotR is an amazing album. Although I haven't heard all (much) of his solo work, it's my favorite solo Paul album. The title track is a really great song, and contains a line I really like, "...to a registered charity." Paul wanted to make sure they were registered, he won't give his money to just anyone! a-hard-days-night-paul-3

Like AG said 1985 is overwhelming, but in the best way possible, a really enjoyable song with a perfect end to a near-perfect album, the swelling of the synth and the last few chords before bringing back a bit of Band on the Run.

Those two songs along with Jet are my three favorite on the album. Jet is just a really fun song to listen to/sing and I love the lyrics.

If I spoke prose you'd all find out, I don't know what I talk about.

We have to... "the paulsbass post massacre of 2013", "the paulsbass post massacre of 2012", "the paulsbass post massacre of 2011", etc... have already been used.

I've always enjoyed this album. As years have gone by, it has become one of my all-time favorites. I was thrilled when the remastered CD came out. To me, there are no "skippable" songs on it. Enjoyable from beginning to end, including all of the bonus songs/versions.

Thanks for bumping this thread AG. I miss watching GniknuS' avatar, lovingly dubbed the HMS Chicka Ferdy.
