Awwww…

I have to say, though, “New” is probably in my Top 5 of Paul albums. I was listening to Ram again and realized that I generally favor the 70s and then skip to 2000s. Interesting…

Just to be clear i meant the joke “i really Appreciate New, ha ha ha” (or something similar) and not the song itself. Its the same with any wordplay joke that is repeated ad nauseam.

This clip sums up what i mean.

Oh, LOL, got it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to add (pardon the pun) after using the word now.

Review of “New” at Nola.com: “Paul McCartney ‘s ‘New’ album proves you can teach an old Beatle new tricks.” Mostly positive. Posting since it’s the only new review I’ve seen since last month.

NEW made #4 on Rolling Stone‘s list of best 2013 albums. The three ahead of it were Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories,” Kanye West “Yeezus” and Vampire Weekend’s “Modern Vampires of the City.”

While I’m thrilled in made #4, especially in a rag like RS, the fact that Kanye West is ahead of it sort of invalidates any credibility they have, no?

^ Exactly, I don’t get the hype over Kanye West, his “music” consists of auto-tuned expletives and computer-made “instruments”…horrible stuff, that and his new video for ‘Bound 2’ is revolting not only a sh*t song but a sh*t video to go with it a-hard-days-night-ringo-14

On the contrary, I think it’s nice to see RS embracing the importance of some contemporary music for a change; rather than continuing to cement their irrelevance by harping on about the glory days. Plus, no matter how much of an egotistical nutter Kanye West might be, Yeezus was a great record and deserved the critical praise it received IMO (the “Bound 2” video is truly dreadful though, I must admit).

Is that the one Seth Rogen and James Franco parodied? Because the parody makes the existence of the original worth it.

I have no idea who Kanye West is. Is he the one who had an interview on BBC Radio One and came across as a right prat when saying he was God or something similar? Or was that Fifty Pence/Dollars/Bucks/Cents?

Cool that Paul made number 4.

Sounds like Kanye – he’s developed a strange conceptualisation of himself as a Messiah over the years. There’s considerable debate over whether it’s satirically intended or whether he’s a typical delusion-by-success type (probably a bit of both). I don’t think he’s anything even approaching a genius as some people claim, but he’s definitely one of the most interesting figures in current mainstream music and has made some great tunes.

I’m with Ben Ramon here. Regardless of what he’s like as a person, if his music from this year is ”good” or original or anything else, and if in the magazone’s opinion it’s all those things enough to make it on the list, then that’s that. I haven’t listened to any of his music, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like it if I did, but I’m sure there must be some appeal, or something, there, otherwise we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Perhaps number 2 is a bit high? Perhaps. Tbh, I think number 4 is okay for New which, yes, is almost blasphemy as I do consider myself a fan of his work, but that’s my opinion. I like it less and less everytime I hear it.

I just don’t think it IS good, or original or any of the rest.  I also disagree with the relevancy thing that Ben suggested; if all of the ‘contemporary’ music in any year is rubbish then the magazine might as well spend time on older artists who ARE still original AND relevant (and contemporary if they are putting new albums out).  In my mind Dylan, Springteen, Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Paul et al have been showing newer acts how to do it of late.

I went to watch the multi-Grammy winning Jay-Z just over a year ago to see for myself what all the fuss was about; and honestly, the only time the crowd really got going was when he did a cover of Forever Young.

I really liked the album. My favorite was easily New, although I enjoyed Early Days and Appreciate.

Kanye West is actually decent, and made one of the only rap songs I enjoy. I don’t believe he rivals Sir Paul, though.

Of McCartney’s 25 or so post Beatles studio albums ( not counting classical or ambient music) I Love or really like about 13-14 of them. And I like at least a few cuts on nearly all of them. I rank NEW in my top five, possibly even higher. I read all the posts about Kanye West in this thread and got kind of depressed. Kind of like talking about William Shatner in a thread about Marlon Brando’s acting. I’m all for new artists or music if it’s good, and I freely admit I’m not as familiar with it as I could be (new artists) but how on earth someone could be into Kanye West and also have the good taste to like McCartney is way beyond my ability to compute.

Is the song Early Days about The Beatles?

Dressed in black from head to toe
Two guitars across our backs
We would walk the city roads
Seeking someone who would listen to the music
That we wear writing down at home.

Two guitars across our backs

Paul means; himself and John?

It’s so sad.a-hard-days-night-john-2

...They've forgotten all about God

He's the only reason we exist...
