Love Chaos and Creation. Except the hyper syrupy “Follow Me” – but there’s one of those on nearly every album.
The album’s very much in the style of “Appreciate” – and “Scared” sounds like it’s right off Chaos and Creation.
the album isn’t fun and bouncy, but it’s got depth and sincerity with great arrangements similar to NEW. It was recorded during an emotionally down period for McCartney, and there is that theory that artists do their best work when they’re down….

Offline While I’m resurrecting dead McCartney album threads…
I got this about a week ago, and I LOVE it. It’s beautiful. Every single song is fantastic. Most are fantastic. Jenny Wren and Friends To Go are masterpieces. Especially Jenny Wren. (By the way, only he could have a song as beautiful as Jenny Wren be the third (arguably fourth, with Calico Skies) most beautiful song he’s written.)
Fine Line and Promise To You Girl (and to a lesser extent, Friends To Go) are nice uptempo songs to contrast the gloomy tone of the rest of the album. Riding To Vanity Fair creeps me out deeply, by the way.
So basically this is his best solo work. Or second to Band On The Run depending on the time of day. But it’s close anyway. Great album.

Seeing as there a lot of CaCitB lovers Beatles Radio Waves, has a series of boots that chronicle the promotion Paul gave for the album around the time of its release – Chronicles in the Backyard. Not heard any of them yet but they look intriguing.

Offline my favourite album … with too much rain as my fav track. i love every single song on this album. along with flaming pie and ram, this has to be his finest. i found chaos & creation when i was in a very low mood, and it had a deep impact on me. i love it, though, maybe because it’s different. oh, and it made me learn to play the guitar. THAT’S how much i like it

Offline “As a rule the church bells chime / When it’s almost supper time”
I imagine the church is in a village square, so its bell is ringing for the rabbits on the run so they won’t become a supper dish. Run For Your Life , rabbits.
Silly rabbits. You have nothing to worry about. Paul is a vegetarian. Ha! You just have to compete with him for that carrot on the table over there.

This used to be my favorite macca album however I now find there are some brilliant tracks but as a whole package, all the songs are similar in in mood and atmosphere which detracts its quality. I much perfect New or Memory Almost Full

I see John’s song Watching The Wheels and the Beatles lyric “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away ” reflected in this song.
Or at least the song makes me think about John.

Offline between Paul’s albums after 2000 i think Chaos is the best. At the mercy and What kind of you are masterpieces. but all the record is good, deeply felt, i think his most personal.
Driving rain is wonderful too, so eclectic with many styles, from electronic rock to indian stuff or blues. maybe it ain’t got the song that lasts but they are all good, at all.
i love Run devil run too, a great heartfelt r’nr album, palyed and sung wonderfully.
New has let me half unsatisfied. not bad at all but it never entered in my heart, the same as for Memory almost full

Offline Lately I’ve been trying to further familiarize myself with Paul’s 21st century albums to the extent that I know them almost as forward and backward as his 20th century albums. While I can appreciate all the songs individually, I rather feel this album’s very subdued tone kind of works against itself. I mean, it’s pretty much the only album of his solo career on which Paul never really rocks out. “Fine Line” and “Promise to You Girl” are the only uptempo songs on it. It may be an unpopular opinion, but Memory Almost Full still works better overall as an album for me.

Offline I remember watching this as a kid and thinking Paul rocked it pretty good. Chaos & Creation has such an emotional punch to it and some of his best melody work. Also, the extended ending to Anyway is really really cool. Always wanted to see it played live.

Offline I only played this album for the first time yesterday and I thought it was really good! I played it again this morning and think it is brilliant … definitely in Paul’s Top 5 albums, and maybe even in his Top 3!? (Ram and BOTR would be my faves of Paul’s).
I had sort of given up on Paul’s solo albums by the end of the 1980s (the 80s was an awful decade for music, with only a few exceptions!) … ‘Flower’s In The Dirt’ was the last album of his I bought (which listening to again, is not too bad) … even though my brother had said that Paul had released some good songs / albums since.
When I joined ‘Beatles Bible’, I saw people raving about ‘Chaos And Creation In The Backyard ‘, so thought I would give it a go and really pleased that I did! I have also played ‘Flaming Pie ‘ which is also good but not as good as ‘Chaos & Creation’. On initial listening, my favourite songs on the album would be ‘Fine Line’, ‘Jenny Wren’, ‘Too Much Rain ‘, ‘Riding To Vanity Fair’ and ‘Anyway’, but there are no weak songs and all enjoyable to listen to.
It is nice finding ‘new’ music to listen to even if it is 15 years old! (It is hard to believe that John & Paul would have met, formed The Beatles and broken up within the same 15 years time frame!)
