From WogBlog:

In an internal list of upcoming releases, Universal Music recently revealed plans to re-release The Beatles’ “Live At The BBC ” along with a new release, “Live At The BBC Vol. 2″ on October 4th, 2013. The date is tentative and may be subject to change. “Volume 2” will be BBC recordings of The Beatles not available on the previous volume. “Live At The BBC ” was released in 1994, a forerunner of a landslide of new material from the Beatles’ archives.

The BBC had a habit of reusing their tapes, which means that most of the Beatles radio shows from the sixties were wiped, however quite a few have later been rescued, courtesy of listeners taping the shows at home and BBC transcription records, which were sent to radio stations abroad. In 2012, the BBC had a campaign, asking their listeners to bring the home taped shows to the BBC for review. Hopefully, some more (or better quality) Beatles shows will have appeared in the wake of this.

More at the link.

If the news about a “Volume 2” is true, it would be the most important Beatles release since Anthology 3 . Anyone who knows the BBC material knows that there is still much to excite among it. Obviously, there would be far fewer songs that haven’t been released before (though there are still a few), many of those songs that were first released on the original BBC set were recorded more than once for the BBC. I wait for further news with bated breath!

Could be a nice release if true, and I’m sure I’d buy it, but I’ve got all of the sessions on the 10CD bootleg set so it wouldn’t be essential for me.

I also have the 10CD, along with a few of the missing shows that have turned up since it was released, but the upgrade in sound quality would make it worthwhile.

Depends on whether or not what Apple have is better than what we have at the moment. Live At The BBC certainly had new material and songs in better quality however there were also songs that were inferior to what was out there at the time. New sources and shows have been found since, some already aired on the BBC (the other Glad All Over being an example) so will be one worth keeping an eye over but will wait for the details before getting excited.

Will also be interesting to see what they add and what is now deemed listenable, the Pete Best material was omitted due to the poor sound quality, has that surfaced since? Maybe they have found some more session tapes like we already have with the Top Gear and From Us To You recordings. A small portion of them recording I’ll Follow The Sun surfaced a while ago. That would be great and worthwhile.

I consider this excellent news.  Anything to get people talking, and any unreleased (if not unbooted) Beatles is a blessing.

This seems to confirm it.  There will be a book as well.

I hope there is a CD, and that it is not an iTunes exclusive or something.

I’m looking forward to this book…it’s on preorder and released the same day as Lewisohn’s, so I’ll have 2 new Beatles books coming to me in a couple of months, can’t wait! 8)

Follow-up post at the WogBlog with this caveat:

Looks like our post yesterday about an upcoming “Vol. 2” of the Beatles Live At The BBC spread like wildfire over the Beatles internet sites (apart from the official ones, of course). Speculations are ripe, but we should offer a word of advice: hold your hopes low, it may just be an interview disc, with no music.

Much more on the history of the BBC Beatles programs and releases at the link.

This is typical for Wog Blog, though…he gets it wrong more than he gets it right (witness his schedule for Paul’s remaster/archive series vs. what has actually happened).

More from WogBlog, spotted by meanmistermustard at the news thread:

Upon researching the internet for possible leaks about the upcoming new album release of The Beatles’ BBC recordings, I discovered three things:
– The full album title will be “On Air – Live At The BBC Volume 2″
– This is very likely the album cover
– The release will be in November

What I discovered, was that MCA Music (which is the Universal Music company in the Philippines) announced these three facts on their facebook site on August 8th. The cover photo is a familiar old black and white photo by Dezo Hoffman, which has been colourised.

It looks like this may be a real thing after all.  This makes me happy.  It’s been a long time since I’ve bought “new” Beatles.

It is starting to look as if something may be happening.

It’s difficult not to start speculating about what should make it. I hope to see some of the ’62 material, and Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport with Rolf.

All the news still tracks back to WogBlog though. Rolling Stone‘s article is based on an article in the Guardian which in turn is based on WogBlog.

I just want an official announcement! Now the story is out, I wish they’d just get on and confirm it!

Wog Blog gets a lot of things wrong based on rumors, so until the news comes from elsewhere, I am cautious about believing it full bore. Here’s another tidbit: http://www.nme.com/news/the-be…..tles/72319

Nothing new, but it’s gaining momentum.
