Who did John write Don't Let Me Down for?

I say it's to Paul.  I think he's saying, hey, I'm in love for the first time, love that's gonna last, so, yes, it's not all about the Beatles anymore but stick by me, don't let me down.

I find the thought that much more interesting when coupled, years later, with Paul's lyrics from Ram's 3 Legs…

When I thought you was my friend
When I thought, well, I thought
When I thought you was my friend
But you let me down, ho
Put my heart around the bend

Paul has said these lyrics we're meant for John… Were the words "let me down" a  nod to Johns tune.  Hey man, I didn't let you down… You let ME down.

Just a thought while enjoying a lovely Cabernet.

I assumed it was for Yoko, and he was asking her not to let him down, because he was in love with her and she was in love with him, and he knew it would last as long as neither let the other down.

Have to say I'd always thought the same.  But it just doesn't feel like its to her.  Listen to it with my theory in mind.  The tone, cadence, everything fits better when it's John singing about Yoko to Paul, and perhaps George and Ringo, stick by me mates, I'm still a Beatle but damn I'm blown away by this woman.

And there's also this:

Nobody ever loved me like she does
Ooo she does, yes she does
And if somebody loved me like she do me
Ooo she do me, yes she does

Odd to say she if its to Yoko, right?  I'm likely way off here lol

You're not alone on the Paul interpretation. I vaguely remember reading that some things John and Paul sang in the outtakes or said while recording supported the theory, but I don't know where I saw that.

I've always felt like it was Johnny giving himself a good talking to. "Damn, Lennon, you have screwed up so many times with relationships over the years. This one matters. You've not put in the effort so many times in the past. Don't go doing the same again, or else this is one you're really gonna regret."

I felt that the song was for Yoko, since John looks at Yoko when he sings that line.

"And in the End the Love you take is equal to the Love you make"
"When I was a robber *Piano Chord* in Boston Place"
"Let's hope this turns out pretty darn good huh"
"Pete may be the best, but Ringo is the star"
Paul:"Don't be nervous John"
John:"I 'm not"

Same…I've never felt otherwise

Damn, I hate typos, Paul does the same for Get Back, he looks at Yoko.

I always thought it was about Yoko, but this is an interesting theory too!
