Who did John write Don't Let Me Down for?

 
I say it's to Paul.  I think he's saying, hey, I'm in love for the first time, love that's gonna last, so, yes, it's not all about the Beatles anymore but stick by me, don't let me down.
 
I find the thought that much more interesting when coupled, years later, with Paul's lyrics from Ram's 3 Legs…

Put my heart around the bend
 
Paul has said these lyrics we're meant for John… Were the words "let me down" a  nod to Johns tune.  Hey man, I didn't let you down… You let ME down.
 
Just a thought while enjoying a lovely Cabernet.

Have to say I'd always thought the same.  But it just doesn't feel like its to her.  Listen to it with my theory in mind.  The tone, cadence, everything fits better when it's John singing about Yoko to Paul, and perhaps George and Ringo, stick by me mates, I'm still a Beatle but damn I'm blown away by this woman.

You're not alone on the Paul interpretation. I vaguely remember reading that some things John and Paul sang in the outtakes or said while recording supported the theory, but I don't know where I saw that.
