In 65 the reporter called him "the fat beatle". maybe he wasnt all "oh my gosh im gaining weight i need to lose it" but lost it.

im sure it made him a bit angry..

but really... john thought he was chubby.. but i like it. he really did get a lot thinner (compare beatles for sale cover with sgt. pepper cover) Everyone wanted to buy them beer and food and all that back in the early days. Also drugs probably made him thinner.

I have a press release from the publisher which says 1 September for the UK, but it's a few months old. I need to get back in touch with them to try to get a review copy - if I have any further info I'll let you know.

Other than the generic Amazon listing, what sources say 9/1/11?

Sorry to be so picky, but I really want this thing to come out already. You would think that if a blockbuster book like this was due for release in less than 60 days, it would be plugged everywhere.

I've seen nothing on the web or anywhere else except for that Amazon thing (which I don't believe is accurate).

Yeah, that was a long time ago that Amazon posted that generic release date. I was hoping you had seen something more recent.

It''s not listed yet on Amazon.com, but I'm sure it''ll follow soon.

I'd like to think he's enough of a source.

Yeah, Joe I read your review of that book. Very well written as usual (your article, I mean). I'd love to buy a copy but am still waiting for the holy grail of all Beatles books to come out.

There's a new book called Beatlemania!, which documents the UK tours between 63 and 65. I don't think they did have decent meals regularly, even when they were world famous. From what I can tell they'd sometimes get a plate of steak and chips before a show, occasionally a platter of sandwiches, or whatever they managed to get delivered to the venue. I think The Beatles all lived quite simply until the Savile Row days, when they could finally get some decent grub from the Apple kitchens.

That is an excellent point. From the Hamburg days up to the point when they became household names, they were not exactly the healthiest looking specimens.

Being poor and taking speed (or a variation of same) all the time left them all very thin. In Anthology, Ringo said their collective weight gain was due to celebratory dinners every time one of their songs reached number 1. I think it was just the fact that they were eating on a regular basis, period.
