John was a man of many faces (or phases) and he seemed to change just about every year. So did the others of course, but not quite to the extreme that John changed. So what year is your favorite?

I would say the 1965 version of John is my favorite, he was just riding the wave of success, but was able to expand his mind by trying drugs which reflected his music introspectively with Help and In My Life . Plus he had that sort of flippy hair thing going on which I like.Image Enlarger

Even though he considered this year to be his “fat Elvis period”, I don't know, if this isn't the coolest man in the history of the universe on this cover, I don't know who is.

I have to agree with you here, and who the hell doesn't go through a “fat Elvis period” in their lives, anyways? He wrote Help and Nowhere Man at that time, and I've always looked at those songs as a way to validate my own feelings when I was going through my own fat Elvis stage. (Kids, 25 can be a weird age. Don't let it get you too down.) And he was still making those flip remarks in interviews and looking like he was having an all right time, at least.

Musically wise, I am actually a fan of his drug induced period.  Tomorrow Never Knows , Rain , Lucy (I know, not about drugs, but the imagery is very LSD like), She Said She Said .  Etc.   I do enjoy his post Beatles persona a lot though.  The Anti-war, equality in his songs and all.

I love John though.  There arent any of his phases I dont like.

1966. 1966 is definitely my favorite year for ANY Beatle. (Except maybe George. 1965 George is pretty fine.)

I saw the topic title and thought, “how did i get on the Hookers Bible website?”.

Anyway, look to the left of this text for my favorite face of John.

As for the favorite phase, I'd have to say during the Rubbolver years with 1964 being a close second. I feel his songwriting during those 2 periods was incredible.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Read the thread title and (wrongly, obviously) assumed it meant “Your favourite musician named John”, in which case my answer would've been “Lennon, of course followed by Coltrane and Bonham”… But now that I'm not misunderstanding (all I see), I've gotta say that looks-wise, I love the shorter-hair, moustachioed granny-glasses look that he sported throughout 1967. Actually, I think that all four were at their most handsome during the simultaneous-moustache days of '67. And those clothes! Breathtaking.

(3+5 – the closest I've come to “9” yet)

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Only Zig could make sense in a sentence using the words “hookers” and “bible” LOL!!

My favorite John? Well it would be easier if  I say my non-favorite John : Short hair, very thin and worn out, very much in his last years. I'm not that fond of Jesus-beard-less look but in some pics he looks awesome.

Ok double post but I think it's a moment to celebrate how John had this lust for life.

Which is your favorite John's story or funny thing he did? I have many :

1. The “Faw!!” in Yellow Submarine 's epilogue countdown.

2. The funny face while dancing Your Mother Should Know .

3. And the smirk on his face and the biting lip like saying “Yeah yeah I'm going to do it” @ 0.08 and the thumbs up @ 0.15 like saying “Yeah motherf*kers I did it!” a-hard-days-night-john-1

I love when he makes fun of that Swedish guy interviewing him for his book. 'Oh, they spell very greatly!' I like '64 John, he was a cheeky fellow.

This was pretty cool to discover not too long ago. Typical John. 🙂
