Arguably my fave John song.

(I would put in John playing this live on Top Of The Pops but the video will not imbed whatever i do.)

McLennonSon – what's your source? It's the third time I've heard this claimed today, and I don't know where it comes from. Instant Karma! was written and recorded on 27 January 1970, not the 26th.

Oh, I didn't know. My source was from the website "This Day In Music".

Depending on what time of day they recorded it, it might still have been the 26th in some parts of the world.

I like black music, disco music. I like the disco music that's out now - John Lennon, 1975

Ah yes, I did see someone else retweeting This Day In Music's (erroneous) note about the 26th. Their article on the song has it correct, but if you search that site for 26 Jan it mentions IK! for that day too.

And the thread's out-of-date already…but as of right now, it's the anniversary of the rooftop concert!

With all the time zones and the fact that time continues to change even this post will be wrong somewhere in the universe as i type. The same with this thread.

I'll be the lone dissenter here.

I think "Instant Karma" was a harbinger of things to come in Lennon-land: a wonderful song with raw (as in under-cooked) production.

There's some very awkward drumming that nearly sounds amateurish.

Of course, it's all strictly a question of taste. (But Voltaire said, "Good taste is my taste")

I always wondered why the post-Beatle Lennon had relatively little commercial success – even the Lennon Broadway musical basically opened and closed (and it was great!!!). ["Imagine" became a major anthem after he died].

And I think that for many people, his songs lacked production, at least in the sense that they'd become accustomed to in his Beatle days.

To my ears, "Instant Karma" is/was a good example.
