You all know you quote I'm talking about, right?

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and told them they didn't understand life."

I Googled the quote but I couldn't find a source and I was wondering, is there any proof that John Lennon actually said this?

He didn't say it. The quote is made up, appeared on tumblr and then spread around Facebook.

For one thing, he didn't have a relationship with Julia when he was five.

Actually, I'm not so sure. Lennon was moved to Mimi at the age of five (if I remember correctly), so the dates aren't automatically wrong. Any other proof? Because the quote sounds perfectly Lennonesque to me.
