Don’t think it’ll be Paul because of the whole ”not owning some of his own music” thing. He’ll still be high on the list, though, no doubt. Who knows, with all the mass-produced artists nowadays, it could be someone like Nikki Minaj. *shudders*

I’d go with Paul as he seems to be very savvy in what he buys and licences, he has a very good team of advisers (That’s not to say John doesn’t; despite not liking how Yoko, and Sean, handle his image and back catalogue they are making a mint from it).
Also when Paul does leave here the appreciation and realisation of just how strong his legacy is will surely come to the fore. Personally i find that Paul’s solo material is heaily undervalued and underappreciated, two reasons being it’s continual comparison to the Beatles and John, and the view that he is too lightweight in his lyrics and content. It is getting more a bit more light shone upon it however which is cool.
Doesn’t a lot of the money made by all these superstars (One Direction, Beiber, etc) go to their background teams who spend 24 hours managing and merketing their image in the press? It’s like with the X-Factor where for a few years it was billed that the winning act got £1m but it turned out that from the £1m they were having to pay for the recording studio’s, promotion & marketing, pressings and everything else.

^ I agree on the ‘lightweight’ thing. It is just plain silly, folks seize on the odd song as ‘evidence’ and ignore all the sappy love songs John did for Yoko.
On the marketing, I wouldn’t mind if there was more ‘stuff’ from all of them as long as it was new and complete – I hate the drip feeding that has gone on for so many years now.

You’d have to to be more specific otherwise you’d get a wise-crack reply about the LP being available. The standard response seems to be it’s in the pipeline having been delayed due to the discovery of new and better quality prints and recordings back in the early 2000’s (aka the bullshit party line, how long does it take to put a film and soundtrack together? But then this the same company who went 21 years before issuing remastered versions of the complete studio albums).

*eyeroll* Nicki Minaj isn’t the end of the world. Just like Yoko Ono, I enjoy her music and think of her as a feminist icon.

^ I respect your opinion. I simply used NM as an example because I understand she is a worldwide artist and/or brand who is very succesful, therefore I imagine she has quite a lot of money. I could have said any other current artist instead.

Question about how they figure out the total of a star’s income/worth: In John’s case, do “they” include Yoko’s earning from her own recordings, etc.? Do they include real property, in John’s case, the apartments at the Dakota, for example. What makes up the sum total of their worth? I know Queen Elizabeth is the wealthiest woman in the world but that is because of her real estate and priceless jewels and such. Do they do the same for celebs? Is Graceland worth more than John’s apartments at the Dakota? If all of that is taken into account, then Paul will certainly be right up on top with all of his real estate and royalties on just his own music plus the two or three Beatles songs he does still own. Add in Nancy’s income and they’ll beat out Queen Elizabeth!

I respect your opinion and I respect Yoko. She is alright. But Nicki Minaj? I haven’t seen much from her, but from what I have seen, I hardly have the same opinion on her as you.
This is off-topic, but I’m confused by your response. Are you replying to me here?

John has made the top 10 earning dead celebrities list again. This year he is number 7. Michael Jackson is number 1, and Elvis Presley is number 2.

The list is pretty much almost identical to last year (if not the same).

Something about referring to John as a “dead celebrity” doesn’t sit well with me, John is very much alive and well in my household, I heard his voice just a few minutes ago…:-)

Kind of a depressing thought but that’s what you get from reading too much Sylvia Plath…

Elvis has Graceland, which will make a fortune, a billion albums out there, and who knows what else so its not that of a surprise. I actually forgot about Michael’s estate holding half the rights to the Beatles catalogue and was surprised to see him above Elvis.

I thought SONY bought up Michael’s shares a few years back, I don’t think that his estate is involved any longer, someone will correct me here if I’m wrong…:-)

Michael made 144 million this year, which I find hard to believe. Elvis made 55 million, and John made 12. I don’t find it hard to believe that Elvis made more money than John–I personally spent more money on Elvis than John this year.
Why do you find it so hard to believe? The Jackson estate had a lot going on over the past year including:
A new album which was in the top 5 of many countries, it also included a hit single ‘Love Never Felt So Good’ with Justin Timberlake that I couldn’t escape over the summer.
2 Cirque du Soleil shows- one resident and one touring
The hologram of him at the Billboard Music Awards would surely have generated a few bob for him from publicity.
Merchandise
And of course the rights to songs- including The Beatles catalog and naturally his own stuff (which gets regular play).

They bought 50% off him in 2006. Not all of the shares
