OfflineThis sort of links to what oneafter909 was saying, but apologies for derailing the thread slightly!
Anyway, I don't know if any of you have seen this before, but this is a letter from Mark David Chapman to a music dealer asking, among other things, if he could have his signed copy of Double Fantasy back. He wanted to sell it and give the proceeds to a children's charity. He says "I felt it was the least I could do."

The insanity of this man will never cease to amaze me.

He should have a death penalty. I don't believe a word that man says, who could trust him?

OfflineNot to get into a big Chapman debate, but I don't think New York State even allows the death penalty. I'll do some research.
Edit: No DP in 1980.

OfflineYeah he's definitely still in prison, and he's been denied parole something like six times. I think it's unlikely he'll ever be released; can you imagine the public backlash?
Also on that Letters of Note website there's a letter written by Yoko Ono to the parole board explaining why he shouldn't be released.

She was doing so well until she confused "it's" and "its", at which point I shifted my sympathies to Chapman.

Unfortunately you can't kill whoever you dislike, a message that no one told George W. Bush (just kidding).

Or Barack Obama (only half kidding).

Other then Osama, I'm drawing a blank. Who else did he try to/succeed in assassinating?

Grammatical errors aside, I think this is the one thing that I can respect Yoko for. She's now been upgraded from "totally useless."

would I pay that much for a signed copy of Double Fantasy? I don't think I would. Not even if I was filthy rich, well, maybe.
