She didn't compare them beyond a simple "neither of us are satisfied with our music". She didn't call herself the new John Lennon or anything. It's like me saying I'm like Lennon because we were both born on the 9th of the month.
Wow, so does that mean that I'm John Lennon too? Could I switch it to Paul instead though, becuase he's my favorite!

So you give him a free pass because he's John Lennon? That's silly. If he was human, than he doesn't deserve a free pass. And that is not silly.
I think that everyone desirves a free pass, and it doesn't matter how bad the thing that they did was because just because someone does something really bad it doesn't make them a bad person, because no person is a bad person it's only because they tell you people who kill or do stuff like that are bad becuase they don't want you to do it, and so most people are brainwashed into believing that they're bad people.
Really though, we're all savages; some just hide it better than others, that's all.
So Gadhafi isn't bad? Mubarek, Assad, and Mussolini? No, they are bad people. They are people who used their power for killing and attacks. Should Chapman get a free pass? Should the drunk driver who killed Diana? NO! Simple as That. People who use power and popularity for evil are bad people. However, Lennon preached good. Those who preach good are not evil/bad people. But that doesn't mean Lennon is free of criticism for his walking out of a child.

OfflineNo, they are not bad people, they're human. They probably also have a harder time hiding the savage in them than most other people do. We already know that giving someone too much power us bad because it gets to their heads, and people from the outside should interfere more I think they're starting to do that now though. If communities would've stuck together and helped eachother out during WWII they say theyre wouldnt have been the holacaust, so people who ignored those things are part of why they got so crazy. I'm not saying killing people isn't bad, because it is and my dad and grandparents were killed by a drunk driver, but I've learned to accept it. It's already happened and it's going to continue to happen until the end, and the reason why is because people do stupid things sometimes, but it doesn't make them bad people!!!
Hate the sin, love the sinner, you're bringing yourself down with all the negative thoughts, man!

OfflineI'm sorry, but no. They are bad people. They ordered the killings of millions, and to say that the communities are in any way responsible for the Holocaust is wrong. They fought, they told lies, they hid there friends and families, who were living in mortal fear. But, to go back to John, if you at least try to do good on your second try (In John's case, Sean), then it proves you are a good person, at the very least like you try to be one. He has said that he screw up, and he did right by Sean, at least.

No. I should love these mass murderers? I should love Lee Harvey Oswald? NO.

OfflineI'm sorry Mr. Sun King I don't think that means love like you should love them, it's more like just not hate them. If you'd like though you can, it's okay to hate people as long as it's not yourself!
(Not that I'd have a problem with you hating yourself though, it's just not good for your selfesteem, but I'm not telling you to not hate yourself so hate all you'd like, not that I'm saying you're a real big hater though, becuase I don't think you are but if you want to be considered a big hater I'm sorry if I might have offended you. Not that I think that offended you though, becuase I don't really know what would offend you or not or something, probably)

OfflinePeople are not "good" or "bad", the world doesn't work like that. We are all shades of grey.
If you allow hate to fester inside you, it will turn your core rotten. You should forgive, no matter how heinous the crime, and ultimately love, so you can be at peace. You should be familiar with these concepts. It is hate that is responsible for war, all wars, all deliberate killings. It is love that is responsible for peace. John died for believing in peace and love. George's last words were "love one another". By all accounts, Ringo thinks of little except peace and love. If this species is to get anywhere, it is by forgiving, and ensuring that peace is preserved by making sure nobody commits monstrosities in the future- most easily achieved by living in peace and love.

OfflineI'm not talking about hate. I'm just saying a fact in this life : There are people who do bad things and they must be responsible for their actions. That's all. There's a big difference between that and hate.
And since this going way off topic and I'm a mod, this is my last word about it.

OfflineThis is my final word as well. Myth is absolutely right. People who commit heinous acts must be held accountable and view in the light of their crime. And if this whole thread reads like a lawyer's opening statement, sorry but I will be taking a law course soon.

OfflineSorry I can't quote but a lot a great points have been brought up.
Mr. Sun King, I totally hear what you're saying, but I really have to agree with Strawberry on this one. People are people and there is just so much negativity in this world if you choose to focus on it. We could go on and on about this guy and that guy, but why focus on all that negativity? It's overwhelming.
When John was asked by Jan Wenner why he couldn't be interviewed without Yoko, he simply responded "why should I? Our relationship is the most important thing in the world" and that's just how he felt about it. No kid or band was going to get in the way of their love, I'm not saying that's right or wrong, it just is what it is.
It's a shame what happened to Julian, it really is and I feel sorry for him, but being an absent father doesn't make John an evil guy, he just had other intentions when he got together with Yoko. I'm not giving him a free pass, but I'm also not going to think any less of him because of how much he brought to this world.

I have to agree with Mith and mr. Sun, but these are good points. There are bad people. In my neighborhood, when someone says that they just got out, we know that he's not talking about college.
Chapman was a sick man (and still is one, for the matter), and thought that he was going to become famous. Kudos to you.
It's just that John was a bad person to his family, and a great one to the world. He brought one thing to us that he can never take away--music. But he brought things to his family that he can't take away--disgrace and confusion. I now think that John probably was trying to make an attempt to clear things up with his family with the love and peace, but it made him look like a hypocrite. He was a violent man for most of his life, and was probably trying to repent. Or maybe it was just an excuse. Who knows? All I know is that he's dead, and we can't change anything.
But that's my last opinion on the topic. This was a fun debate 8^)

But we can all agree on this thing; he made some of the best music ever. So, while we disagree, I think I need just quote the man. "Come together, right now over me" Lets always remember the music.

OfflineGuys,
I did the talk and it went really well. As I've said elsewhere people told me they were genuinely moved by 'Mother' and 'God' and there were some kids who told me they never knew about the whole 1969 Bed-peace protest thing which they thought was great … so that was very satisfying.
but..weird … when I was going home in the car John came on with 'Stand by Me' …. NO KIDDING!!
Trying to tell me something??
