OfflineReally? That's the first time I've heard anyone say that. Do you not think they did a better album?
Help!'s got some great songs on it, sure, but I've always thought it was one of their weaker albums. It's like a midpoint between the early great pop of A Hard Day's Night, and the experimentation that really got going on Rubber Soul.

Don't misunderstand, they are all good. Every album and the singles they did between was a transition into the next album. There were a couple weak songs on HELP! I agree. How can you not like the sound of Ticket To Ride, The Night Before, Another Girl, You're Gonna Lose That Girl? And George was coming into his own. The only weaker songs would be Act Naturally and Dizzy Miss Lizzy. DML should have been a B side or an an EP before HELP was released. I may be biased though as the only Beatle Album we had in my house when I was growing up was the American version of HELP!. My friends parents had all the albums. Man I was hooked.

I've always loved Act Naturally – I think the country feel and George's guitar playing does it but I totally agree about Dizzy Miss Lizzy. It sounds different (it was recorded at a different time we know) and it jumps out as a filler. It would have sounded better as you suggested as a b-side but then they never released covers on singles did they! An EP along with Bad Boy would have done the trick……and maybe thrown in You've Got Troubles and That Means A Lot with them

Yes, as a matter of fact it was the US Sountrack with the James Bond intro. The first time I heard the "regular" version, it sounded odd. It was such a treat when the Capital Albums Volume 2 came out. I wish UA would re-release AHDN with the instrumentals. I always liked the "This Boy" instrumental.

Watching the movie was always such a treat in the 70's. I probably saw "Help!" about 20 times before I ever saw HDN. I loved the album because of the movie. I always liked the movie, but then again I started watching it when I was a kid. That changes your perspective! I could see this as a favorite album, but I think mine is the soundtrack for HDN.

OfflineI love Help!, it's one of my favourite albums.
the best songs on Help! in my opinion are I've Just Seen A Face, Help, I'm Down, I Need You, You Like Me Too Much, The Night Before, Another Girl and You're Gonna Lose That Girl.

Well, actually, I'm Down was only released as a B-side to Help!, (single) even though it was released in the same timeframe as the Help! album. Great song, though.

OfflineI eventually grew to like "I Need You" despite the inexpert guitar volume-pedal work but still think "You Like Me Too Much" is possibly George's weakest Beatles original. George was still a year or two behind John & Paul, songwritingwise.

OfflineFor the pure shock value, I love to say that Help! is one of my faves; that's because to an American, the original Help! album is quite weak (as with A Hard Day's Night, Yellow Submarine).
The real Help! album is much, much stronger. On a desert island, I would be perfectly happy with it.
Even loved Dizzy Miss Lizzy from the first time I heard it. I've been playing those bass and guitar riffs ever since

OfflineI can not understand why anyone doesn't like Dizzy Miss Lizzy…i know that in a way it's different from the other songs on Help! but i find it hilarious! Someone once said that the lead guitar of the song is really annoying…why? it makes me more excited and enthusiastic !
