All right, sorry everyone. It wasn’t Simple Press, it was to do with a WordPress plugin called Jetpack which adds a lot of functionality to sites (stats, galleries etc).
I had to disable it for some testing, then switched it back on. Something must have gone wrong because everything was loading very slowly. I’m not sure why.
I’ve switched it off for now, but I’ll put it back and run some tests to see which part of Jetpack was causing problems. If it continues to be a problem I’ll look for a workaround.
The maths question was part of this, one of the security features. I didn’t have any problems getting past it, but if it’s compulsory I’ll turn off that part of the plugin.

I’m getting a lot of reset disconnects on forum urls (like posts and topics) from what appears to be your proxy. It could just be that I’m on a wifi broadband link and its timing out very fast, but it’s been very noticeable in the last couple of days, so possibly something to do with the sites slowness.

Offline Incredibly slow for me and on the face of it it looks like connection issues. When it finally loads in chrome it wont let me reply as nothing happens when I click on ‘Submit Reply’ – currently using Firefox which is marginally quicker.

Offline You’re still getting slow loading? Hmm, not sure why that’d be.
I’ve had to disable things a couple of times which might have meant the site was temporarily unavailable, but nothing should be slow loading at the moment.

I’ve done a few of those sites where you can check and see if a website is down and all of them are saying the site is down and its not just me. A couple of the more detailed ones are saying the server isnt responding. The ability to upload attachments is also not working.
I’ve no idea what is going on as i can obviosuly reply at the moment but i started composing this post 8 minutes ago and i’e only got it to go thru now.

Offline Phew. My webhosts found some network connectivity problems so they rebooted the server, which seems to have fixed the faults. All should be back to normal now (fingers crossed).
I’m not sure precisely what caused the problems, but I’ll keep an eye out for any other issues. Thanks for your patience.
Edit: from my hosts:
I don’t believe it was anything on your end, unless certain actions indirectly influenced some really odd behaviour in your server’s firewall. Everything else seemed perfectly normal on the server, and I do not expect this to be a chronic issue.
There were some problems with watches, subscriptions and some other stuff over the last few days. Have these now been resolved? I assume it was a symptom of the same issue.

Offline Hi all,
All my Watches on the forum have spontaneously disappeared. Has this occurred before? I did a search but can’t see anything related. I definitely haven’t hit the ‘Remove All Watches’ button. Any ideas greatly appreciated. The only thing I’ve done differently in the last couple of days is change View, between Mobile and Automatic view, and back, on my tablet.

Offline I’m not sure what might have caused that. I had to temporarily disable watches and some other forum add-ons while testing things earlier. I’m not sure if that reset them – it shouldn’t have but I really have no idea.
Shall I just put up a sign on the front page saying “I’m really sorry for the downtime, slowness, oddness, offence, restructuring and everything else this past week”? Happy Easter, all!

Offline I dont mind glitches and downtime as its going to happen @Joe, even the major sites like the BBC and facebook go offline occasionally. I do really appreciate how much effort you put in to dealing with such things and the feedback you give us tho.
