ahdn_paul_06 There are sites that take back ups of this one like the wayback machine but only after you make the post.

I’ve learned to copy my longer posts in stages so that if I erase it by mistake I can paste it back in. I even paste it into Word (or the Note app on my phone) sometimes when I’m copying in links (can’t have two things in copy mode at one time).

I do that too. Especially with links/pictures, because when I switch tab/window on phone to copy the link sometimes it’ll refresh the BB when I come back and erase my post.

I do that simply because IE at the office freezes/stops responding far too often.

Have it so you can unthank a post. I have seen some posters thank posts that they didn’t intend to thank.

Wouldn’t that mean you could unthank people for posts which haven’t already been thanked? If so i can see that leading to offences being taken and arguments brewing.

^ No it only can unthank posts that were already thanked by the user so either thank a post or unthank a post you already thanked.

Joe has mentioned that the software doesn’t have that option. If it ever does become available, I’m sure he will weigh the pros and cons of implementing the option.

Yep. Instead of a “thank you”, an unthank becomes a “screw you”.

Nope. Not for it. Not for it one bit.

Agreed, that kind of unthank would be the four-lane highway to abuse. But why unthank? I miss a thank button in other forums, but I’ve never ever regretted a thank even if it was unintended. Additionally, it’s a binary thing, you can’t tell why someone thanked you or why (by omission) no one did. So let us not have “thankcrime” but bestow our little ray of thanks to all sentient beings on the interwebs.

Since during daylight savings time, the notifications for posts glitches for a while, can you change the forum time zone to UTC/GMT?

Are you talking about the notifications for new posts turning blue in the drop down menu? I just noticed that today. There were new posts in threads that never turned blue for me. “Tis a bit a-hard-days-night-ringo-14

I’m thinking it’s time to remove the non-Beatles discussions sections of the forum.

What is and what isn’t considered appropriate seems to be increasingly arbitrary so let’s just close it up entirely then the ‘rules’ are clear.

I’ve had one mod tell me that some people complained about some of my posts (I have no idea which ones) and that I should move them to another thread. Then Joe tells me that thread is banal and irrelevant (I actually found it quite entertaining). Hey, it’s not my site, so I’m happy to go along with the majority – but now I’m not sure just what the heck is and isn’t acceptable and where.

It seems that some of the ‘unacceptable’ content is just what some people find tiresome rather than being objectionable. In my view that’s fine in an off-topic area, if it’s not, why have that area at all?

There are no plans to close or remove the ATN forum and the desire is not to bring the sense of community that has built up slowly down but there has to be some control. Joe provided a space long ago for folk to talk about more general topics as folk wanted it (the games sub-forum came later) but the aim has always been to preserve, promote and encourage the Beatles aspect of the forum. Personally for a while now however it has felt to me that the forum is becoming more ATN and less Beatles and it is a Beatles site. I dont want to see the community fall and the very large majority of the non-Beatles threads are going to remain and hopefully continue but as with all that Joe and the mods (past and present) do the aim is to provide a better Beatles forum.

Admittedly some decisions will be unpopular with some (and some things we will get wrong) but hopefully folk can see the reasons behind the decisions and understand why.

If folk do have concerns about decisions, actions etc that they would like to discuss with Joe and/or the mods please do PM us.
