I searched on "yellow submarine water bucket sound effect" and got over a thousand hits, mostly in what I would consider off-topic topics a-hard-days-night-george-10.  Sure, I could look through the thousand+ posts in the "how did they do that" thread, but um…no.  Is there any way I can find out if this has already been covered, or should I just post on it again?

Thanks for any help,

Mike

The advanced search function can be helpful, but sometimes the best way to search was pointed out to us by Ahhh Girl. Go to Google and search for your term while adding site:beatlesbible.com/forum

So, if you were looking for "Beatles bootlegs 1963" you'd type: "Beatles bootlegs 1963" site:beatlesbible.com/forum

This will take you to the specific page of the post(s) you're looking for, as opposed to the first page of the thread, which is unworkable for long threads.

You can get as specific as you like if you know the thread, e.g. site:beatlesbible.com/forum/yesterday-and-today/beatles-news

^ Yeah, that's the best way, I think. Did you search topics or posts, that may be the reason why you had so many hits.

Also, make sure to check "Match Phrase." Otherwise it gives you any thread that anywhere within contains "yellow", "submarine", "water", "bucket", or "effect" Which is quite a lot of 'em.

This thread talks about sound effects in Yellow Submarine. Do you think that it would be a good thread for your comment? It would keep the comments together in one nice conversation.

And of course, we can count on Joe for some input on his information pages.

The thread was titled about a specific sound effect, and while my question would have been accepted there, I decided to try the advanced search, match phrase option, and found what I think is the answer under a "Yellow Submarine: Sound Effects" topic – or maybe it was just "Yellow Submarine" – anyway it appears the effect was not made by a paint stirring stick in a pail (which I read somewhere, not in a reliable source though) of water but a chain dragged around a tub.

This isn't strictly speaking about the search function -- but it's about something you do when you're searching for an older thread.

I was trying to find a comment I posted in a topic I forgot, so I go into my profile and click on Topics You Have Posted To (because I know this was not a topic I created).  The results are displayed in descending order -- i.e., page 1 shows the most recent, and as you read down the list, they get older; page 2 is even older; etc.

Well, the comment that I posted like 2 days ago was not there.  I posted a link to my playing guitar along with "Bip Bop", and I even saw that Bulldog commented (and I responded to his comment).

Why can't I find this in the "Topics You Have Posted To" section?

The internet can function in some strange ways. Perhaps @Joe might know the answer to your question.
