And at the bottom of that article is Ultimate Classic Rock’s ranking of the Top 50 Beatle songs.

Check out Let It Be ‘s position (and others) compared to ours.

This doesn’t really belong here, but I thought I’d note it anyway.

In the past week or so the site has received comments by Tony Barrow (Beatles press officer) and Richard Langham (Beatles tape op/engineer, 1963/4, 1969/70).

I’m so grateful that they took the time to write (and that they weren’t criticising something I’d written!). These people are awesome – they helped make it all happen.

I know I posted previously about Joe’s site being used as a source in ‘Tune In’ book one but I cant find it (maybe its one of the strangely deleted posts). Anyway it’s been used again, this time in relation to Raymond Jones attempting to buy a copy of ‘My Bonnie ‘ from NEMS – Joe interviewed Raymond in August 2010 and subsequently posted it here.

In regards to ‘Tune In’ the related paragraph is on page 983 of book two and the Beatles Bible is listed in #21 on page 1152 of the Notes section.

There’s an interesting interview with Yoko in the Daily Beast, which links to this site (when discussing the Lennon/Epstein affair rumours):

http://www.thedailybeast.com/a…..iller.html

The Daily Mail recycled the story and also linked here (calling the site “The Beatle’s Bible”). I won’t link to it, though, because the Mail is horrible.

Which Beatle does the bible belong to?

From Ultimate Classic Rock yesterday.

55 Years Ago: Ringo Records With John, Paul and George for the First Time

Ringo Starr sat in on his first studio session with the Beatles on Oct. 15, 1960 — nearly two years before he became a member of the band.

The date, which marks the first time Starr performed with George Harrison , John Lennon and Paul McCartney , happened while the musicians were honing their chops through a series of live dates in German clubs. Starr, then employed as the drummer for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, was in the midst of a residency at the Kaiserkeller club in Hamburg — the same venue occupied by their rivals the Beatles.

The competition between the two groups didn’t stop promoter Allan Williams from uniting them for a session supporting Hurricanes member Lu Walters, whom he’d booked into the local Akoustik Studio to record three tracks: the Peggy Lee hit “Fever,” Kurt Weill’s “September Song” and George Gershwin’s “Summertime.” Williams, who also managed the Beatles, decided the latter song needed something extra, so he enlisted his clients to sit in for the Hurricanes and back Walters on the track. The Beatles’ drummer at the time, Pete Best, was in town on an errand, so Starr remained behind the kit for the recording.

“It was Allan Williams who wanted our group to record three songs with our brilliant vocalist Lu Walters,” Hurricanes guitarist Johnny “Guitar” Byrne later recalled. “But Allan didn’t think that our band was good enough and got the Beatles to help us.”

Harrison, for one, didn’t think much of the session, later describing Walters as “a guy who thought he was a singer” and “paid to have the record made himself” in Akoustik, a tiny facility open to the public for limited-run novelty acetates exchanged between family and friends. True to form, although Walters’ recording of “Summertime” was pressed, only a handful of copies were ever made, and according to the Beatles Bible, “none are known to have survived.”

As @KaleidoscopeMusic mentioned elsewhere on the forum just a little bit ago, Joe’s site was mentioned in Ultimate Classic Rock’s story about The Beatles last concert in Liverpool.

Beatles Bible says that 40,000 applications for tickets were received for the two shows at the Empire, which seats 2,550 people.

The Guardian linked to this very forum in an article about the new Beatles streams. It was to a thread about McCartney pulling his recordings from streaming services – a weird link to choose because it didn’t really go anywhere.

I like “honing their chops.”  a-hard-days-night-ringo-8It wasn’t too long before they got them fully honed.

I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

^^I liked the musical and lyrical raving about For No One and I suspect @Merch would too, a-hard-days-night-john-6  but (as usual) it pisses me off when writers pass opinion off as scientific fact. a-hard-days-night-paul-3

I really liked it, even though I understood nothing of the musical parts related to B and C and the key of F . The only part I disliked is when he said I’ve Just Seen A Face ‘s prelude is unnecessary, it’s one of my favourite parts of the song.

Also, when it mentions Yesterday was named Scrambbled Eggs, it links to Joe’s page on the song.

I got some traffic from two very similar features on different websites, published a day apart, both of which mention Got To Get You Into My Life being about marijuana (and link to my feature on the song):

You might want to get your site disassociated from this CNN story, @Joe. OMG. CNN.

Here are some bits from it.

(CNN) The young men from Liverpool had gone into London’s HMV record store to cut a record, one they hoped would lead to their big break.
{snip}

It was Epstein who in 1962 brought the Beatles to an HMV (His Master’s Voice) store in London that had a small recording studio where musicians could cut records.
{snip}

According to the Beatles Bible website, “Hello Little Girl ” was the first song Lennon ever wrote.
{snip}

They didn’t even link to your page on Hello Little Girl . ahdn_paul_01 They linked to the homepage. At least the got the information in the sentence that mentions your site correct.

To be pedantic, Calypso Rock was John’s first song – Hello Little Girl was the first one that stuck. a-hard-days-night-paul-10

One of the worst articles i’re read in a while.

Till There Was You ” was a cover of the song from “The Music Man,” which the Beatles would perform, along with four other songs, in their groundbreaking February 9, 1964, performance on the “Ed Sullivan Show.” It reappeared in the 1995 compilation album “Anthology 1 ,”.

What the heck is thata-hard-days-night-ringo-8? It makes it sound like a) they didn’t release it on any album until ‘Anthology 1 ‘ and b) that the Ed Sullivan performance is on ‘Anthology 1 ‘.

I just did a Google search for “The young men from Liverpool had gone into London’s HMV record store to cut a record, one they hoped would lead to their big break.” That sentence results in 40 pages of hits. Ick. Disinformation spreading like wildfire through the internet.
